YOU ALWAYS WANT TO KNOW THE DATE OF MANUFACTURE -DOXY SHOULD ONLY BE USED BY HUMANS INSIDE OF ONE YEAR OF THE DATE OF MANUFACTURE.

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to share that my Amazon Aquatic doxy arrived today and the pills are identical to what I was prescribed by urgent care. Both are blue. Both say 'w-e-s-t-w-a-r-d 3142'

Wow... just amazing. Yes, do make sure it's not expired. I think it's good for a year unless it's been sitting around next to an aquarium too long.

There are lot numbers too but I can't compare those to my 'human doxy' because they don't put that on the pill container!
I was sitting there last night going - what is the difference? Did some of these fall on the factory floor and get designated for aquarium use? There really is no discernible difference. Even the troubling "hyclate" added to the end of the word 'doxy' in the ingredients is just the long form name for the same stuff given to humans...or so says the internet.

Should mention that of the many types for sale on Amazon I can only vouch for the one called 'Aquatic' with the pic of the purple fish on the white bottle.

You get doxy "hyclate" from the pharmacy too so don't worry about that.
We keep this on hand at all times too. It's the EXACT same thing.

WARNING: Doxycycline is only safe for humans for 2 years after the manufacturing date!!! 2015 is WAY TOO FAR AWAY to be a safe expiration date for humans!!!! Google "doxycycline shelf life" for more info.
Juliet, does it say a manufacturing date anywhere? If it doesn't, then I really wouldn't take it. Old doxycycline will damage your kidneys, but also it won't work well as an antibiotic either. It's really not worth taking the risk! Maybe you can order some from over-seas?

"While the majority of what captterry may be close to the truth, don't take internet advice as medical advice. Certain classes of drugs can kill you if they go past the expiration date.
One classical example is Doryx or (generic) doxycycline which is a tetracycline antibiotic.
Doxycycline's shelf life is a maximum of 2 years after manufacture which is consistant with the 1 year / 1 year hypothysis. Doxycycline is concentrated by the liver in the bile. It is also excreted in the urine.
But doxycycline will decompose after 2-3 years into toxic compound that has been shown to cause a dangerous syndrome resulting in damage to the kidneys and/or renal failure.
So while it may be safe(er) to take some meds longer than the expiration date certain classes of drugs (cyclines, opioids, etc) can hurt you and not just lose their potency."
