So..met with LLMD today. We are going to try 3 pills a day of Malarone plus a low dose of Zith.
If all goes well, we will double the dose of Malarone to 6 pills / day in a month, assuming no liver issues.
So..dropped the Rx off at CVS today. Went back to pick it up a few hours later and the pharmacist told me that he "needed to talk with the Doctor because of the unorthodox dosage. The "approved" dosage is one pill / day for Malaria."
I asked if he has ever heard of Babesia. No.
So..now I have to wait. At least my LLMD will be safe from persecution thanks to the new law in Massachusetts!

Might not be a big deal, sometimes they just want to verify dosages to be sure a mistake wasn't made. If it's more than that, I'd change pharmacies.

wowzas. I've only had 1 pharmacist ask me about abx. I wouldnt even mention babesia or lyme. Just say its between my Dr, and the dosage is correct, beyond that-- its not their business. They can call to verify, but beyond that no one has to tell them anything. If they continue to pry I'd just go else where so you dont cause problems for the Dr.

I'm lucky, my Pharmacists both know Lyme well... watch out for me and any drug interactions. What a wonderful change after having to fight w/ the Pharmacist at Costco!!
Try Walgreen's next time... they have better pricing as well!

CVS is a pain and I had this too. I told her it is none of their business and she had crossed the line into my doctor's treatment. Got my RX in about 10 minutes flat...LOL

Oh trust me I said the same to the Pharmacist at Costco and she screamed at me saying she's THE Pharmacist and that my Dr. was wrong. Basically the Dr wanted me on Bicillin LA 1.2 mu but the stupid Pharmacist filled it for Bicillin C-R 600 mu!! So for a month I was injecting the wrong med! When I confronted her she blamed my Doctor! Now that I think about I'm going to go back and report her! She was one nasty person.

Actually, it is the pharmacists business. We have pharmacists call the ER ALL the time to verify dosages and sometimes they actually catch a problem. Doctors DO make mistakes and it is the pharmacists responsibility to make sure that is not the case.
My sister had this happen on various occasions with my niece when she was given abx as a child. She is 15 now, but she is 5' 11'' and was a big child so her dosages always seemed to be too much. My sister would get aggravated as well, but really, the pharmacist is doing his/her job.

one phamacist wouldnt fill my prescription for amoxicillin.
he said it was not safe for me to be on it for 3 months straight, because it could give me a diarreah... ridiculous!
i just told him i wanted my prescription slip back, and i'd take it to my regular walgreens that didnt have a problem giving me the medicine i need.

- The diet and lack of good probiotics will do it every time!
bcb... at least the pharmacist is making sure. They do have to protect themselves.

A CVS gave me problems recently, they were being shady and questioning my diagnosis, etc. I told them it's none of their business, and fill these scripts or I contact their manager.
Since that little episode they have been very kind and fill my stuff ASAP.
If it's beyond them just verifying the dosage for safety reasons, you have to lay the smack down.

I always had problems with cvs. I use a small pharmacy now- no issues. your diagnosis is none of their business.
when I switched, I brought a list of my meds to the new pharmacy and made sure that there would be no problems. cvs may be cheaper than a small pharmacy

A family member of one of the pharm techs working at my pharmacy has lyme. They get it and never question my prescriptions. Thank goodness.

i feel the pharmacist should have just gave me the med, and let me decide if the side effects were an issue. you never know until you try it!
i've tried so many different anti-biotics, and the only one i've ever had stomach problems with is zithromax.
zithromax helped my lyme the most, but i couldn't eat anything without feeling completely tortured. it was terrible, and i couldn't handle taking it anymore.
still, it was my decision to stop taking it. it shouldn't be the pharmacist's decision!
