I don't know if I am late coming to this, but I am blind with rage over this article and slideshow on CBS. It basically is calling us all liars .... and misinforming the public.

I love the introduction...... The very first line of the "article" is.....

They say Lyme is caused by the bite of ticks infected with B. burgdorferi bacteria,

Who is "they?" This is like, "like".....6th grade english! Where is the context?

I agree Lymeboy, this is amazingly idiotic. Exactly what study conclusively shows that "9 out of 10 people" get the rash? Dr. Steere specifically banned non rash people from his studies. I would like to know where this number "9 out of ten" comes from. Anybody know?

And the "fact" that the tests (Elisa and WB) are accurate. This disease just may be our own "window to the world." And it ain't pretty.

If you want to see more stupid articles, RDayWillcome posts articles everyday over in General Support. Some are good, some are awful.

Go there now to see more. (what a delight)

It was pretty bad. Why can't CBS get it right?

Things are never dull. After 3 fighting Lyme, 2 are in remission. Youngest is still sick, age 22. He has new diagnosed Chiari Malformation and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.

The thing about "9 out of 10" have rashes is really dangerous. Now everyone will think that is true and not seek help.

Because the art of journalism is dead. Payola rules the world. -
Articles like this are a death sentence to thousands of people. I am where I am now because I had the same exact ideas about Lyme until I got really bad. I walked around with this for at least 5 years and didn't give it a second thought. Who knows how good I might be feeling today if this nonsense wasn't happening. [cussing]

FACT OR FICTION? Lyme disease often proves deadly

FICTION. Though Lyme "advocacy groups" often cite cases in which people with Lyme disease have died, Halperin says there is almost no evidence to suggest that Lyme is the culprit.

"One of the curious aspects of B. burgdorferi infection is how relatively benign it actually is," he says. "In contrast to many other bacterial infections, patients rarely require intensive care or even hospitalization."

When Lyme seems to lead to death, odds are it's not the disease but inappropriate treatment that is to blame, he says.

Hmmmmm? [dizzy]

The sad thing, Lymetoo, is I think they were hinting that it's the ILADS doctors who are to blame with their "inappropriate treatment"... That's the impression I got when I first read it.
