Anyone experience this? What does it mean? What would you do?
My dear nephew at age 5 has congenital Lyme, yet to be treated but in the works. He went to an outside birthday party yesterday and the mosquitoes were horrible.
He got 3 bites even when heavily sprayed. One of those bites has a bullseye appearance around it and is warm to touch. The other 2 bites are normal. Almost 100% positive it was a mosquito.
Is this a sign of Lyme disease? If you have Lyme can this happen with bites? Is the rash just something else?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There are a lot of people who are beginning to say that lyme can be transmitted by other blood-sucking insects, mosquitoes included.
I would get photos of the rash to show to a doctor; I would think this demands immediate treatment.

Photo didn't show up very good and it is fading now 24 hours later. LLMD will be called, pediatrician no use.
It just seems so rare to get Lyme from a mosquito.

Is it just a Welt?? my daughter welts up with mosquitoes bites...large red circle around bite, raised and warm to touch. lasts a day or two....
usually cortisone cream helps...it just might be that!

Hi Ktk - Guess what! The same thing happened to me!
Went to a night baseball game and was bitten by a mosquito that left this ugly maroon and red mark the size of a silver dollar. (It was definitly not a tick!)
I was seeing an LLMD at that time. This was about seven years ago, but I still was positive for Lyme.
We figured that my immune system was too over burdened to fight off any new infection, so I was immediately put on a course of antibiotics.
Your nephew is positive for Lyme so his immune system is compromised. He needs to be treated.
Mosquitos, as well as biting flies, have been suspect for carrying Lyme. More research is needed.
I know at least two other people that developed bulls-eye type rashes from mosquito bites. It's more common than you think.

I know a LL psychiatrist who swears she was infected by a mosquito.
"Yet to be treated but in the works." Does this mean he has a pediatric LLMD and is waiting to begin treatment? If he's been re-infected, he needs to be in treatment.
I'm so sorry! But I'm glad you're on the case. Get this little guy in treatment.

Almost every bug bite I've had in the last 5 years leaves a bulls eye rash.
I don't think it has anything to do with the bug itself. I find it hard to believe that every single blood eating bug that has landed on me is reinfecting me.
I think it has more to do with what I am already fighting off rather than the bug.

I just read an article that said a few Lyme specific areas were tested... mosquitos, spiders, etc.. just about everything you can think of.
The results were that at least 20% of all of them were carrying Lyme. Lets hope this is not the case for that little one.
You should know if they come down with the flu here pretty soon.

Hey guys: Just got backf from my oldest son's orientation at OSU. I called my sister and the rash is gone. He seems to be feeling fine.
The weird thing is that he had rib cage pain the week prior to the bite. I see him getting more symptomatic.
In the works of treatment, means he has been tested through IgeneX and then the doc wanted more blood work. My nephew will go with my sister to her next appointment.
Fuel, I did read a lot about other critters with Lyme and saw some photos. Yeiks!

From all that I have read, I believe mosquitos and spiders can certainly carry lyme. It's not really a stretch since they can also transmit other diseases, such as malaria.
I have also heard that in endemic areas, about 20% can carry lyme/coinfections.
My LLND believes that mosquitos transmit lyme. Dr. K in Washington also has mentioned this in his lectures.

I talked with a backpacker from Michigan who swears it was mosquitoes that gave her Lyme.
