Hi All,
Somebody who I dont know in real life but knows I have lyme contacted me and basically said this..

DS got a bug bite around Canada Day. It swelled and then bruised but that's happened before.

Two days later, daycare requested that we take him in to the doc for another grouping of tiny blister-like topped bites that formed a 'j' shape and had a low grade fever and a rash near his penis for about 3 days.
He said they were fine but since my mom took him (and is now on the other side of the country) so I have no clue if he looked at the big bite.

The rash near his penis spread to his bum (and now is only on the bum) and seemed to me like either heat rash or eczema. No biggie.

On Tuesday, I noticed a raised rash, in one 'bump' rather than several dots, on the same leg and same area as the larger single bug bite. Well.....it has gotten bigger and is now forming a rash-like ring around the now faded (but still visible) bruise.

I called 811, they said it would be a good idea to take him to the doctor again so I'm going to go in the morning but.................I'm absolutely scared that it could be a tick bite!!

Here is a pic of the bite

 -

She said she took him to the dr and the doctor said its probably just an "infected bite". He did give him 3 weeks of amoxy..

I have told her about lyme and how it needs to be treated but she seems to be listening to the doctor..

Does this look like a tick bite with a bullseye?

It definitely appears to have that white center circle. It's odd that it doesn't go all the way around.

Also - look at pictures of RMSF for the rash in the other areas. Usually it's on the hands and feet and torso but mine was on my scalp under my hair so you never know.

Hi Jackie - It could be a histamine reaction - but it's better to be over cautious than not.

The bite looks suspicious. I don't like the way it looks.

Tick bites can sometimes be easily overlooked and barely noticeable. The center of this bite seems slightly darker. It does have the appearance of rings.

Are there Lyme literate doctors in Canada? I assume this is a young child, so amoxy is OK.

Sending you a PM for more info.

wow that's close enough for me. I'd get it checked out pronto. What would it hurt to take antibiotics now and avoid a possible score of misery?

I second the lyme vote...

Please gather some evidence for the mother to change her opinion. It wouldn't hurt to be proactive for sure.

Hi Jackie,

It looks very suspicious to me. I live about an hour north of Kitchener. Last August I got a "bruise" on the side of my knee, right where my barn boots end. I had been in long grass, catching and caging my pasture chickens. The bruise was a vivid shade of maroon, and a perfect circle. I thought it was strange and showed my husband. He cringed and said "Yikes, that must hurt!" But it didn't hurt at all, and I didn't remember banging my knee. The bruise faded and I got really sick. I went to the E.R. three times in 2 weeks. During the second E.R. visit the intern commented that I was limping and found a little bit of fluid on my knee. I didn't care at all about my knee because I was so sick, I felt like I was dying. I was actually upset that she was worried about my knee when my head and brain felt like they were going to explode. I had a very bad sore throat, fever, brutal non-stop headache for 2 weeks, then extreme fatigue and brain fog for 2 months. The docs at the E.R. kept saying it must be viral and sent me home. I felt like I was looking at the world through a very long tunnel. What a strange and scary feeling. I recall feeling that way years ago when I had "mono" which I now suspect was a previous exposure to lyme.

In December I was researching lyme, trying to figure out what is wrong with my son. I put 2 and 2 together and asked for the WB for myself, even though I was better. I am IgM positive both CDC and IGeneX, and have 4 IgG bands.

So living in the same area as this boy, and having a "bruise" that was probably a tick bite, sure makes me wonder if his bruise and rash are lyme. I'm really glad the doc put him on amoxicillin, but maybe the mom could push for a longer course of it, just to be safe??? Just my 2 cents.
