could this be lyme althought it sounds completely crazy.

bandaids will not stick to me. the only kind that sticks is the cloth kind in the hospital but then i break out in a horrible red rash. something about the gauze.

why won't bandaids stick? i've tried water kind, kid kind, etc. nothing sticks. they come off in a couple of minutes.

i need to put one on my heel but it won't work.

what can i use??

Do you have any lotions or oils on your body?

There are liquid band-aids available that may work better for you. I've seen them in the regular grocery store in the section with other band-aids.

Dry skin is probably the culprit for the band-aids not sticking. May or may not have anything to do with Lyme, but likely is related to fatty acid deficiency or imbalance. Suggest increasing omega-3 fatty acid intake, and using a light layer of coconut or olive oil on your skin after showering to help hold moisture in to your skin.

There are also some skin prep solutions that supposedly protect the skin from the adhesive while at the same time helping the adhesive to stick better, but I don't know where to get this (it comes in my PICC dressing change kit but I don't use the skin prep because of sensitivity to ingredients). Maybe a pharmacy or a medical supply place would know what to use as skin prep?

I hope this helps...take care,

This may be something you haven't tried: "Nexcare Tegederm Transparent Dressing". It is a thin transparent waterproof dressing that sticks really well and will conform to the curves of your heel. Put a piece of gauze over the wound then cover with the Tegederm.

Here's more info:

You can ask your local CVS or Walgreens to order it for you if they don't have it in stock already. Most of the time they get shipments daily so you won't have to wait long.

You could also try cleaning your skin off with an alcohol pad before applying any tape or bandaige. This will help slough off any dead skin cells and excess oils. Make sure to let the alcohol dry well before applying the dressing.

You can also use alcohol to help remove old stuck on dressings and tapes.

If you are looking for a regular bandaid, I like the Band-Aid brand "comfort flex sheer". I'm allergic to almost all other types but this one is gentle on my skin yet strong to hold when I need it.
