husband has been complaining that he can't sleep. last night he got up at midnight, stayed up for about an hour and a half, came to bed, then back up at 3:30.

he's doing this more and more.

i go to bed at 10, lay there until at least 12, sleep for an hour. some nights i just watch the clock all night long and get NO sleep at all.

i hate taking elavil as i am completely bombed the next day, plus the weight problem and dry mouth.

i know mine is lyme but is his?

he's going for cataract surgery on monday. so far i've shown no signs of cataracts.

are cataracts lyme too?

Results vary with LDN. I had to stop because it gave me insomnia. It took 1 year + to get back my ability to get to sleep at a reasonable time.

Randi - I believe eye problems are common with lyme but I don't know if that applies specifically to cataracts.

Has he been checked for diabetes? Cataracts are frequent in diabetics. High blood sugar can cause constant waking during the night due to the need to urinate.

Will he consider a workup to rule out other conditons?

I don't think cataracts are really connected with Lyme, but who knows?? I have them.
They are more likely due to that blinding Texas sunshine! I must buy darker glasses for our next trip. Just traveling in the car all day burns my eyes for days.

Have you tried Ambien? (sorry, can't remember)

Yes, it could be Lyme. Could be plenty of other things too. I agree he should have a work-up to rule out Diabetes, enlarged prostate, thyroid issues, etc. Could be food intolerances, too - so a food IgG blood test may help.

Supplements/herbs to try for insomnia:

GABA
Melatonin
Valarian Root
Chamomile tea

Homeopathic Quietude (made by Boiron) - available in health food stores or online (see http://www.vitacost.com/Boiron-Quietude - I have no financial connections with Boiron or VitaCost) helps my husband a whole lot on the rare nights he has difficulty sleeping.

Naltrexone is a prescription that has to be specially compounded because the available prescription tableted dose is too high to be used as "Low Dose Naltrexone."

I find I get the best sleep from Progesterone (with no grogginess the next day) but guys can't use that...

Take care,

Hi Randi,

I have Lyme and co. for several years, and before diagnosis, (when I already had systemic sx), I developed cataracts too.

That clued me in that all my seemingly random sx-including the cataracts- indicated a systemic disease.

I was diagnosed a half year later with Lyme and co.

My LLMD claims cataracts are related to Lyme.

I don't know about your husband, but this has been my experience.

good luck to you,
Lymehead

Yes it is a prescription but you can call a pharmacy and they will help with practitioners
in your area.

You need it for your bowels, look at the photos in the group.
It works for many people, only few have trouble. As ever start with very small dosage and later on 4.5. It helps many with (preventing )cancer.
