Rifampin treats ehrlichia. Do you take doxy with food?

If you also have babesia you cannot take mepron with rifampin. Too bad about the doxy as it can be taken with mepron.

I have ehrichia too. What are your symptoms? I am not sure what mine are but looking at what symptoms are in dogs I came up with; red irritated eyes, swelling in my lower leg above the ankle and according to the LLMD, painful shins (that can also be bart).

I have tried the doxy with food. My symptoms are brain FOG I keep dropping everything I hold, feels like i was hit by a MAC truck. Neck hurts headaches, fingers hurt, everything hurts. I am getting a script from my PCP so I can have all the metal fillings taken out of my mouth hope that helps me a little. We'll see if the insurance company honors it. I need a good med combo and dose to take!

The dizziness, night sweats and off balance is babesia. I never had that kind of body pain with ehrlichia.

Here is a link that might help. It is a study of which drugs were most effective for ehrlichia in Dogs.

This website gives you meds and doses for ehrlichia:

http://www.lymebook.com/antibiotic-treatment-for-babesia-bartonella-ehrlichia-co-infections

On page 25 of the Burrascano Lyme Treatment Guidelines, he suggests doxy in various forms (such as IV, etc.), and then also mentions rifampin. Here is the quote:

"Standard treatment consists of Doxycycline, 200 mg daily for two to four weeks. Higher doses, parenteral therapy, and longer treatment durations may be needed based on the duration and severity of illness, and whether immune defects or extreme age is present. However, there are reports of treatment failure even when higher doses and long duration treatment with doxycycline is given. In such cases, consideration may be given for adding rifampin, 600 mg daily, to the regimen."

Try Doryx, if your insurance will pay for it. Take it with food.

It shouldn't bother your stomach like regular Doxy does.
