I had C diff, took Flgyl thought I cleared it...started on zith, mino and mepron tried and failed to add in Ceftin. Now C diff is showing back in my stool. Upping the Florastor to 3 pills twice a day. My other doctor has put me on vancomycin (very expensive). Any other ideas out there as to what else I can do. Now taking mepron, Paragone (still at half dose) with Byron White A-L and A Bart. Feedback or ideas, support welcome. I feel like I can't get two steps ahead.

I don't have diarrhea just the stool sample came back positive, and I have been taking florastor and theralac and VSL but not enough of them. I will now be taking them more often, today I have already had 6 florastor and three theralac, ordered some more. I am worried about doign the mepron with only herbs along with and the parasitic treatment...but there is no other way to clear out th c diff....Thannk you for the good wishes, I hope it clears too.

Igor's Mom. Do you have any symptoms of C-Diff? I'm just curious as I am on IV Clindamycin and worry about C-Diff. I did have a stool sample done but don't have results yet.

Haley, My symptoms are weight loss and fatigue and nausea, lots of bowel movements which sometimes sort of burn, upper right quadrant pain but no watery diarrhea, sorry if this is too much information. Also my ascending colon s tender to push on (so don't push on it!), my llmd says that coudl just be the gallbladder the non-lyme literate doctor I see for the stool sample has his own lab in DC and originally I went for him becuase he finds parasites that Lacorp and Quest never found-he found three!. Then he found the parasites-and then c diff. So I am on vancomycin because he wouldn't put me on flagyl. I don't know if I got reinfected or it never cleared. I have to go around the house and bleach everything...it never occurred ot me to do that. I threw out the enema kit I had been using yesterday-had changed the tubing but not the bucket though I cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide. So I don't seem to have the classic c diff symptoms which is good, but then my llmd and other doctor are concerned if I keep up the abx for babs and bart and lyme it will go into full blown colitis. Hence the oral vanco-which is crazy expensive. Wish I could have talked him into flagyl......

hmmm, i thought c. diff was diahrrea. i had horrible burning diahhrea at least 6 or more times a day. also very painful lower abdomin, fever, etc.
i couldn't even give a good stool sample. it was mostly mush...The most common symptoms of mild to moderate C. difficile disease are:
Watery diarrhea three or more times a day for two or more days Mild abdominal cramping and tenderness. in severe cases, C. difficile causes the colon to become inflamed (colitis) or to form patches of raw tissue that can bleed or produce pus (pseudomembranous colitis). Signs and symptoms of severe infection include:
Watery diarrhea 10 to 15 times a day Abdominal cramping and pain, which may be severe Fever Blood or pus in the stool Nausea Dehydration Loss of appetite Weight loss When to see a doctor Many people have loose stools during or shortly after antibiotic therapy. See your doctor if your symptoms last more than three days or if you have a new fever, severe pain or cramping, blood in your stool, or more than three bowel movements a day.

I don't know what to make of te c diff without diarhea, that is how it usually presents, but this doctor has his own lab and looks the stool within minutes of you giving it to him-I suspect he finds things early on sometimes. Even so being pulled off of Zith and doing mepron solo with BW herbs does not make me very happy. I have been getting progresssively fatigued...but also upped the mepron to 1 and 1/2 tsp so maybe that and the A-L A-Bart and the Humaworm are doing some killing. I am only doing on dropof A-L and A-Bart and get headaches and nausea with them-they are strong for me. I am hoping that at my next appt my LLMD will put me back on Zith. They just approved a new C diff drug, too.

Well I tested positive again for c diff. I am taking vanco on a plus florastor and vsl#3, and cultrurelle and probiotics and I don't have the diarrhea and cramping but the infection...and when not on vanco multiple loose bowel movements. Does anyone have a c diff specialist they know of in the DC NOVA MD area? I found a guy at Hopkins who is a c diff expert but read so much bad postings about their perspective on lyme treatment..I don't need him to treat lyme...just the c diff. But if anyone knows other experts in recurrent c diff. Please PM me. Thanks
One can never get over C diff until the good flora has a chance to regrow and overtake the bad bacteria...the above website is very valuable.

Try six weeks of saccaromyces boulardii, and copious amounts of daily kefir.
You may even want to add an infant formula in which will help to re-establish the infant associated probiotics we all seem to kill off with all the antibiotics we depend on.
I started culturing my own probiotics that I had bought, and was incredibly dissappointed by their lack of fermentation. So I went with live grains of kefir, and make my own now.
The S. boulardii is specifically for C diff.

lauriel -- I think the Florastor is an expensive brand name of s.boularrdi. Hubby uses the Jarrow brand of s.boularrdi. He takes 6 capsules daily. Fortunately has never had c. diff.
I am pretty sure I have posted a couple of links to herbal treatment of c. diff in the past. Will try to find them.

Thank you Bea, but why so expensive? I get S. boulardii from Swansons dirt cheap. It is quite active, as I have cultured and grown it from those capsules. Very vigorous product.

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions: I had found the c diff board too and found some info and doctors to email for local refereences. Ihave been on vanco liquid now for 8 weeks and next week I am doing the fecal transplant. I know it sounds gross and all, but it has a 90% effectiveness rate and the three c diff drs I consulted with were very supportive of doing it. The prep is for a colonoscopy so that is the toughest part, then we have to drive the two hours to Balt., do the procedure and wait for the transfer to take then drive home. The c diff expert I found at Hopkins and the Dr. who will do the procedure at St. Joseph's didn't bat an eye when I told them I had lyme and babesia and was taking ABX....I will let you know how it goes, not sure what happens after the transfer how long I have to wait until I can take abx, I have been taking vanco, theralac and s.boulardi but can't shake this c diff. The C diff expert Dr. B at Johns Hopkins says they are getting more aggressive C diff bugs that are resistant...I have printed alot of the comments and will consider buying some of the probiotics, I was thinkng of using colostrum. Wish me luck! Thanks for the support.
