My doctor wants to try me on Bactrim for Bartonella and I'm already on Rifampin.

Does Bactrim hit Bartonella? How about Babesia?

What were your experiences?

I hear it hit babs mainly but it can also get bart long term.

I am on it for barb and saw improvements within a month or saw my ear fullness got better. I still have it in and off but it is a lot better...

it might be hitting bart as I keep getting flare ups every month

I was supposed to take Bactrim to hit Bartonella.

But each time I've tried it I would become bedridden sick with fever, like a bad relentless flu. So I keep backing off. Had to be a herx because I've taken Bactrim often when I was young for UTI's etc, and had no problem with it.
To answer your questions, my herx illness sure seemed like Babesia symptoms not Bart, so I would say Bactrim treats Babesia more than Bart.??

Don't know cuz I still have not got the courage to start the Bactrim again. Currently just taking Zithro and Plaquenil.

For me, it was more useful against bart than babesia. I took it for 9 months suppressing my bart symptoms. Babesia was raging at the end of that time and I started treating it with atovaquone/zithro.

When I developed an allergy to zithro I started taking Bactrim DS again, when my shins began to burn. So far so good.

But Bactrim is often added to the mepron/zithro/artemesinin combo so it must boost the effectiveness of those drugs against babesia too.

My niece has been covered with bart 'stripes' (bad) for almost a year. She started Bactrim and Zith and the stripes are fading in just 6 weeks!!!!!!

We were told they will turn pink, then white and then disappear. Many are already gone from the back of the arms and some from the thighs. Many on the trunk are turning pink.

Her doc was totally amazed at the progress!!!

She is just turning 16 and believe me, having the 'stripes' has been a heartbreak! I see other improvements too.

Bactrim was my treatment for babesiosis. That's how I got rid of it.

My lyme doc said it also hits bart.
