Has anyone taken Amantadine during their treatment? My LLMD prescribed for depression not responding to any psych drugs.
I also found it listed in Burrascano's treatment guide to augment Zithro or Biaxin, but it doesn't say why it is used.
I heard it is supposed to help raise dopamine or something.
I know I need to take something for depression (cannot tolerate any antidepressants), but am scared because I just heard of a story in the news about a dentist on Amantadine who got confused and drove down the wrong side of a highway and killed some people.
The dose I have is low (100mg), but I am still concerned.
Anyone have experience with this drug?
Thanks, KJ

I took it for awhile but it didn't do much for me. One of my most successful meds for depression has been Lamictal. It is a mood stabilizer. I have been on it for years with great results.
What kind of depression do you have? Is it the dark moody kind with lots of tears, or is it the I can't do anything at all kind of listlessness?
I have the latter kind and use a very small dose of Nuvigil to get my motor running. I am so tired and need a push to get out of bed and do something, even just take a shower.
I am lucky enough to have a psychiatrist who knows drugs very well and who has been learning everything she can about lyme and coinfections. She even sent some other patients in for testing and found out that they, too, had lyme.
My LLMD said that many psychiatrists treat the symptoms of lyme without realizing their cause. He and my psychiatrist and a few other lyme literative doctors may do a seminar for doctors to educate them.
Meanwhile I suggest you find a good psychiatrist and get on to some meds. It takes a few weeks or a month to see results, so you may have to try a few to find what works.
Good luck and keep on trucking!

I took it for 8 months. It is used by LLMD's to help raise cellular PH so that BIaxin or Zith can work better, otherwise the lyme hangs out in low ph areas of the cell where the Zith / Biaxin can't reach.
That is the only reason it is used.
