My tongue has big red bumps all over it, its sore sometimes and looks very red, not pink at all.
My LLMD does not have any answers for me, but when I google it, I notice that B vitamin deficiencies could be the culprit.
My question is...Is this B12 deficiency? Are the blood tests accurate?
Is it necessary to be on B12 injections with Lyme disease??
Thank you for any advice!

It could be from B12 deficiency but it might be better to take a comprehensive B Complex or Multivitamin plus extra B12.
Well, the blood test may not show subclinical B12 deficiency. Homocysteine (Hcy) and Methylmalonic Acid (MMA) levels should also be checked - if either of these are high, then the B12 level may not be accurate and supplements would be needed.
But since B12 is not toxic, it is ok to supplement even if B12 levels are normal & Hcy and MMA are normal/low (Hcy & MMA can be falsely low if one has methylation cycle variants).
Shots are not necessary - sublingual B12 is readily absorbed for most people. If that doesn't work, there is a prescription nasal gel form of B12.

Thank you ever so much Razzle! I believe my B12 was very high last year but my doctor was only concerned about low B12. I had been taking a B vitamin so that could have skewed it.
I will look into a good B12 sublingual.

Hubby has been having problems with his tongue since we started aggressive babesia treatment and his RBC went low. So far testing for B12 and folic acid has been normal.
I gave him a Chinese herb formula labeled clear toxic heat. It is a combo of herbs used for lyme and has helped, but so far the problem has not gone away completely. The herbs he was taking are from the company below. I have no connections with this company.
I posted a website a month or two ago that shows pictures and lets you diagnose yourself based on your tongue.
Don't have time to search for the link right now.

Thank you Bea! My neurologist is putting me on a chinese formula because of my tongue also, but I still think its something to do with B vitamins. I've also heard that its blood gathering there.
