...so I took a day off work (yesterday) and drove 5 hours to get to my monthly appointment, but there was just a note on the gate saying they were closed due to inclement weather. Did this happen to anyone else? (I'm sure some of his other patients use this site).
I can't even say how angry I am. I am sick, driving exhausts me and exacerbates all my joint pain, and it's hard for me to get time off work. And he never even called to tell me the office was closed. And I was supposed to get shots and refills on all my prescriptions. And he's going on vacation so I can't even reschedule the appointment right away.
I think this is a sign that I should stop treatment-- it hasn't done ANYTHING to help me, I feel as terrible as when I started, I'm now thousands of dollars in debt, and I certainly can't afford to take another day off work anytime soon. I feel bad for his patients who are even sicker than I am or drove from even farther away only to find the office closed.

-- No way can you stop treatment!!!! 5 Months is NOT long enough to see improvement since you are likely herxing all the time.
Is his office in the area where the hurricane was? You would THINK they would try to call patients... esp those coming a long distance. I would be angry too!

I think this was only a sign that you were among the many, many people who were challenged by the natural disaster. They made a mistake in not contacting you. But you don't know the extenuating complications - such as a receptionist who had to evacuate her home/kids/pets/elderly relatives. We all have to be a little bit understanding.
And I get it that it was a terrible and exhausting inconvenience for you to drive there. Do you normally confirm this appt the business day before hand? I would.

Sorry that happened to you. I can certainly understand your frustration! I would be upset to drive all that way, take a day off work etc. for nothing. But then I also think we should allow for human error more. I would NOT stop treatment. If you haven't even been in treatment a year... no way!

Stopping treatment because you are rightfully angry is not going to hurt anyone but YOU!!!
I agree...The doctor should have exhausted every effort to contact each and every patient. Bottom line is that it is the doctors practice and his/her ultimate responsiblity to inform patients. No cell phone service?
Yeah, I would be ****ed too but would also give them a chance to explain why they did not contact you. Just my 2cents...
