I could swear this is like a bed sore kind of thing. What do you think??

.... back of my heel.. not the bottom.. but the part that touches the bed when you're lying down.

It's sore and red. Tonight I'm going to put a micro-bead pillow under my feet. I need that pillow for my shoulder, but hey.. whatever.

Seems to have gotten worse since I spent a lot of time in bed due to back issues.

It is not an open sore...it's under the skin.

thanks for any info!!

It could be a pressure point or the beginning of skin breakdown. Good idea to prop them up on a soft pillow.

You could try to massage the area several times per day to increase blood flow.

You should also be conscious to reposition your feet about every hour so that they are not laying on the same spot continuously (even a slight turn inward or outward would change the pressure points).

I forgot to say that I sleep on my back ALL NIGHT long. No choice due to back and neck issues.

Good idea about massaging the area. I haven't been able to figure out what to do about it.

It does sound like the beginning of skin breakdown, leading to a bedsore.

In the hospital, we used a sheepskin heel protector when this happened.

Also, massage the pressure point every two hours to help increase bloodflow and delay breakdown.
I know, you can't do that when you're sleeping.

Something else that will increase blood circulation to the area is LED light therapy.

i had this. heels hurt so bad in the morning, couldn't hardly walk. i thought it was cause i sleep on my back, and i don't ever move. i sleep with a pillow under my feet every night. solved the problem completely. i hope it does the same for you. when i forget the pillow, it comes back in 2 days.

Yep I have this too. Before I started IV the pain would be so bad it would wake me up from a deep sleep. I remember those nights after I had the Hickman then later the Picc line placed and I couldn't sleep on my sides and was stuck on my back and the heels pain were excruciating. No idea why though but glad it's not too painful now.
