My boss tried it. It didn't help for very long - he ended up having spinal fusion surgery.

Ugh.. I don't THINK mine is bad enough for surgery. Nothing has been said in that regard.

My good friend is a chiropractor. He uses the spinal decompression therapy to treat some of his patients.
I know from talking with him, he finds that most people are able to get relief from pain and better mobility with proper care. His also recommends physical therapy for his patients so that might be something else for you to consider.
Lymetoo, I would try every therapy possible before resorting to back surgery. Good luck

NO, surgery is the last act of desperation. I think I can do fine without. But I'm very limited in my activities right now. Worse than when I had Lyme.
I drove yesterday for the first time in 2 1/2 weeks. Didn't go particularly well.
Not sure I can afford PT and decompression. We'll see how it goes. Yuck.
Thanks for input!

Active release?? I used to have a great PT who did that. He moved.
But right now, I need to get the pressure off my vertebrae...off the nerves.

Maybe the chiropractic/pt office will allow you to make scheduled payments on your treatments. That way you can get all the therapies you need now.

Lymetoo, I had surgery on a herniated disk (L2-3)in 2001. Since then it hasn't been right. Pain, tightness and muscle freezing. Finally I found something to help me........... decompression. It took about 28 sessions before it worked with me and now I go for maintenenace.
Be careful of the machine, however. My chiopractor had a great machine that was horizontal and I just layed on it like a table. Then I was stapped in across my waist, hip area. That is the decompression machine that really helped.
My chiopractor moved quite a distance from me and I tried another chiropractor and machine the DX something. It was terrible. They strapped me up like I was going to jump out of a plane then had me stand on this machine and lowered it. It was an upright that was lowered once the patient got on it.
My legs were hanging downward while laying on the machine, even though I had knee support and caused such muscle strain to the lower back it was unbelieveable. Then the strap was so tight on my rib it was sore for 3 days. Monday I cancelled my appointment with the new chiropractor and will drive the distance to see the first chiropractor. It's worth it.
So, caution on the decompression machine.
It also worked for my husband who had a herniated disk and he avoided surgery 9 months ago with the help of this machine. He has had no problems since.
I just wish I could remember the name of the decompression machine for you.
I did not use for my neck but only the lumbar area.
When I get the name of the decompression machine I will post it.

Hubby did this in 2007. Had 2 bulging discs in lower bad that of course the neuros said should not be causing pain.
It was very helpful. He did the LCD treatment -- lumbar cervical decompression.
Insurance will pay if the chiro knows what codes to use.
Hubby did a total of 12 treatments -- but knew after the first 1 or 2 that it would work.
Check around as there are docs that have the big fancy machines and charge big fancy prices and do not file with insurance. But the smaller less expensive machines without the TV and other upgrades work just as well.
They should do some massage and heat treatments in combination with the LCD -- will work better that way.

Up. I'd like to learn more about this technique, too from those who have tried.

Lymetoo, the machine I used that was really good and worked was a Triton DTS machine. They have different models but the same principle, where you are laying flat, start to finish and knees are up and feet are on the table. The legs and feet do not hang off the table like other machines which puts stress on the back muscles.
The actual name for the decompression is DTS or Spinal Decompression Therapy.
You can probably do an internet search for your area for DTS Triton and see what comes up for chiroprators in your area.
I can honestly say this is the only thing that took away the pain. I need maintenance maybe once a month but my husband never had to go back for more treatments once his herniated disc was helped by this machine. It also will help buldging discs.
Good luck and I hope something like this resolves your problem.

Wanted to mention that after decompression, my chiro also did the tens (stimulation) with ice pack on back. Then an adjustment. It cost me $95.00, he did not belong to my insurance group so did not get paid extra from insurance.
The new chiro that I went to where the machine was an upright DRX did all three services, decompression. tens with ice and adjustment. He charged me $100.00 and was a participant of my insurance and got paid an extra $74.00 from the insurance.
I'm going back to my first chiro and driving the distance, it is worth it to me to have the right machine for my body.

Lymetoo, don't get discouraged if it doesn't work in a few treatments. I did not see a difference right away. I was 20+ treatments before I was pain free. But I also found out after a month or so that I need monthly maintenance.
