To better define areas of human Lyme disease risk, we compared US surveillance data with published data on the seroprevalence of Borrelia burgdorferi antibodies among domestic dogs.
Canine seroprevalence >5% was a sensitive but nonspecific marker of human risk, whereas seroprevalence <1% was associated with minimal risk for human infection.

I can't see the CDC ever getting on the bandwagon.
They have worked hand in hand with Steere on the over diagnosis and over treatment of Lyme disease starting with Steere's 1993 paper on the subject followed up by his Lyme standard from the Dearborn commission to his subsequent 2000 follow up research report on proving the elisa then WB testing.
A catch 22 sceanario if one ever reads the report.

That map was put out by Idexx - the company that makes the heartworm test my veterinary hospital uses. I remember asking a doctor about Lyme and he laughed. When I told him we had 2 positive dogs that year that had never left thier yards (in central ohio), he assured me that humans in Ohio don't get Lyme... If only i remembered which one that was so I could send him my test results.

The dog/geography statistics are very interesting, even if it is comically/tragically funny that it takes mucho $dinero$ to compile this "dog" map while thousands of humans are denied abx coverage.
Check out Massachusetts' stats on Lyme. Wow, maybe they have a lot of dog lovers...... but they have high Lyme incidence! Also New York and Penn. are very high. Thanx Tincup!
