We're trying to get a basal temp for my daughter so she took her temp first thing in the morning on the 2nd day of her period and for the following 4 mornings.
She used a brand new thermometer, the kind that beeps in a minute, under her arm.
Her average temp over the 5 days was 93.4. Her body temp has been low since forever but is 93.4 even possible or is the thermometer broken?

Why not test the thermometer? Take her temp with another thermometer and with that one and see if it gives the same result. I'm thinking that underarm temp may be lower?? Or maybe it's just a faulty thermometer. What does it say your temperature is?

I believe under the arm is one degree less than under the tongue. Might be wrong on that. Maybe it's two.
I don't have another to test it on. Our other 2 broke which is why I got this one.
My temp is 97.5 on it.

I took mine for a while, different periods throughout the day. I had heard different patterns correlate with borrelia vs. bartonella being dominant factors.
Mine was frequently lowest in the early morning, and I think I did have one as low as 94.something once, although 95-96 was more typical. I was taking under the tongue.
I think those low temps are part of this illness.

Her hands and feet used to be ice cold all the time, even during the hottest days, but no longer. She now feels warm to the touch. I guess that's why I'm so surprised by these numbers. Maybe she's a frog in disguise? (A cute frog, that is!)
Thanks, guys!

Avoid taking temperature after drinking cold water or anything else that might effect temp. I wait until at least a half hour after drinking.

That might not be an accurate temperature.
Could you try waking her in the morning and help make sure that the thermometer gets placed properly? I know it's hard for me to think clearly and do important things in the morning, especially when I just woke up.
You want to make sure that the tip is tucked well up under her arm, touching skin only. It's easy to let the thermometer slip out from under the arm or rest against the edge of your shirt.
You may need to have her wash her deodorant/antiperspirant off before going to bed. Some products leave a thick pasty film that might interfere with the good skin to skin temp reading.
If you get another weird temp, check to see what her oral reading is. Axillary should only be about a degree lower than oral temp.

OK, good thoughts. Can a basal temp be taken on days other than during your period? Do they just need to be consecutive days?

Yes, I know, but you don't know my daughter! She's put that thing under her arm so there's no way it's going in her mouth, no matter what it's cleaned with!
I just honestly didn't know if 93.4 could even be a real temperature. It seems so very far from normal.
