I am on my second day of 300 mg Rifampin. I take Flagyl, clindamycin and Buhner herbs also and am 113 lbs(hence low dose, I suppose). I have had a red streak on my arm for about 8 weeks now. If the Rifampin is going to work for the Bart, how long should it be before the streak goes away?
Since there are so many different strains of Bart, I need to know when to throw in the towel if this ABX is not working and switch to another.
Thanks!
Sue

Supposedly they don't go away until the infection is gone.

I took another prescription drug and it took over a year for the streaks to go away. That was a few years ago and they have not come back.

Terry:
How did you know if was working? I'm so confused because all these ABX's seem to have their own side-effects and I no longer have any clue what are symptoms of the disease and what is from the medicines!!
BTW, which medicine worked for you?

I have been on Rifampin and Biaxin for bart for 3 weeks

The first week the bart became much more agressive and the symptoms became much worse and I developed a few new symptoms I never had before

I had this weird rash in a few spots on my body before treatment and it went from a few places to over 20 different places on my body,Like it was spreading

Now they are almost gone and most have faded away

I believe the medicine caused the bart to manifest out of all the places it was hiding in my body

Be patient and I know how bad we all want to get better and quickly

But for many this is a marathon not a 50 yard dash

I am just glad some of the symptoms went away, And the rash is almost gone

But I know I have a long way to go

The exact same experience that BigJohn mentioned happened to dd. Her Bart streaks seemed to explode when she finally started Rifampin. It was so confusing--we thought the Rifampin wasn't working. We were told however that that is common, and yes, then did start to fade to almost none, though haven't completely disappeared yet.

She just started an herbal protocol, and we are seeing the same repeat explosion of streaks. Her rash had gotten down to almost nothing while on the Rifampin, but we could tell she had plateaued. Once she started on the herbals, her rash has again spread--

We are again hoping this means the herbals are working, and the rash (and Bart) will disappear for good!

Good luck with your treatment!
