Hoping one of you with experience with the follwoing can help me
I am on Iv zith. There is the glass bottle, with the powder solution attached to the saline bag. It is a self contained system. I squeezed the saline solution into the bottle, but the solution filled teh galss bottle, and now I can't get damn solution back down into the solution bag.
I have already lost 3 bottles this way, so I really need to figure out how to get the solution from the bottle into the bag.
I called the nurse, now answer. The pharmacy is closed. I have a port, and have to deaccess myself tomorrow, so I've got to figure this out before Monday.
Thanks - Amanda

Hi Amanda, I am not familiar was that system specifically but I know with Rifampin powder you have to mix with saline you need to inject air into the bottle as well so it will create a vacuum so that it exits the bottle properly. Could there be another step?
I hope it works out.

Your nurse or doctor or pharmacist should have shown you how to use the supplies before leaving you to do it on your own.

Sounds like what I have to do with my Invanz.
1. Squeeze saline into the glass bottle. Shake to mix the powder.
2. Hold the glass bottle up higher than the saline bag and squeeze the saline bag until all the fluids drip back down into the saline bag. Hope that helps!

Is this the first time you are using this system?
If you are using it for the first time = flip the bag upside down and squeeze and release the bag few times so the bag can pull the drug back.
If it is not the first time and you did not have same problem before, then there was no enough air in the bag at the first place. Try to attach the infusion system and add some more air into the bag.
I work in IV pharmacy and I know it takes a little bit of practice, but if you are patient it should work.
Good luck.

I have actually been doing this for last 9 months, but only recently started having the problem.
Yes, the problem is that all the saline solution filled up the bottle, so no air space in teh bottle, so could not push air into bottle to get abx back in bag. There was still plenty of air in bag, so adding infusion system didn't help.
BUT, I put it in the freezer to get in cold, in the hopes that would allow more air in, and that did the trick.
Thanks everyone for your quick responses! Much appreciated
