I've been treated for Lyme & co's for last five months. I was undiagnosed for 7-8 years. Lyme has improved, babs is giving me trouble, according to my LLMD. He said it could also be some bart, but he's leaning towards babs. Incidentally I never tested positive for Babs, which I know is common.
This past month I feel like my body just can't take all the meds (mino, mepron, artemesinin, azithromycin pulse, tindamax pulse and others for symptoms). Constantly overheated and sweating which my Dr. says is babs. I did have this symptom before treating but it wasn't as bad. I believe it could be my body having a hard time detoxing.
I emailed my Dr. this past Thurs. to get his advice and asked him if I could take a short break (like a week) and discuss the possibility of going back to a week off every month. I haven't heard back from him and I decided to get off meds for a few days to get some relief.
Today is Sunday, no meds since Thurs. evening and I'm feeling better. I've been gathering info about castor oil packs & liver flushes and I think this could be helpful for me.
My questions are:
How do I know if its herxing or if its detoxing/difficulty processing the meds?
How long can I take a break from meds? Is one week a month usually okay? Any more than that, and does your bacteria load start to really increase?
Do meds become less effective the more breaks you take from them?
Sorry for so many questions. Thanks...

I can only speak from my own first hand experience and most of these questions would be for your LLMD.
When my doctor had me pull back on a med, it was often for 3 or 4 days. There was a time when it was a week but it would also depend on the particular protocol and how your LLMD is treating.
One thing I found that helped me is to DETOX DETOX DETOX. I would hear that and I THOUGHT I was doing that, but then found so many other things I could do to help boost it even more.
If you do a search on "Detox", I'm sure a lot of ideas will come up that you haven't tried yet.
No two people are going to respond the same but drug holidays aren't all bad. I know that sometimes your symptoms will come roaring back, but my best advice is to stay in contact with your doctor through all these changes.
Good luck and keep us posted.

I think you are probably right. I'm not doing everything I can to detox. I will do a search on this site.
You gave me some reassurance that taking a few days off probably isn't going to throw me off.
I will certainly discuss all of this with my LLMD. He's usually more responsive.
Thanks Cathy.

You need to detox and Address PARASITES as well as they hide LYME and Coinfections.Yes the sweat like this is babs.
If your liver is cleaned after you have done a parasite cleanse than the liver can handle more killing.
Otherwise find here the castor oil packs and the MINI flushes as you can not have a liver flush with parasites in it.BUt you can have saunas ( lemon juice ) or coffe enema.

Well I spend a lot of time detoxing:
Dry Brushing Epsom Salt soak Castor Oil Packs Lemon water (even though it's killing my teeth I'm back on it.) Milk thistle Cholestyramine
But even then today I feel like my body has reached it's limit... and I'm giving myself a break. I'm spending all day detoxing.

I ordered all that I need for castor oil packs and liver flushes. I'm going to see if this helps.
I stopped drinking lemon water and I'm going to add that back in. I hate to admit this because it's so obvious but I don't think I've been drinking enough water!
Also, since starting meds my apetite has gone through the roof. I was underweight so I just went with it. Now I'm feeling like my body can't handle so much, so often any time I want. It's an apetite, not so much hunger. My weight is good now so I think I need to have a better schedule/regimen. It's hard on my liver to be eating all of the time and it keeps me from drinking as much water.
I used to dry brush. I'll add that back in! And I just bought some Epsom Salt.
Since starting meds I've seemed to have let go of the supportive things I did, thinking that meds were going to take care of me. I was ready to be "normal" again and not have to work so hard to feel well. Now I see how essential it is when you're treating.

I drink almost a gallon of water a day. if i dont, i get super achey and fatigued. water is most important.
Drink water in between your meals, room temp if possible. Cold water hampers digestion especially when taken with meals.
Baths and Saunas do wonders, at least for me. Massage (if you can handle it) will also help get things moving from your tissues. I used to be able to handle deep massage, now i prefer lighter because they can definitely affect my brain and body afterwards. Its like a super herx.
i try to juice more often too, especially with carrots, beets, lemon and kale (and sometimes apple). Your liver loves this!
Lots of other good ideas out there though, just gotta find what works best for you and your lifestyle.
I get achy & fatigued too if I don't drink enough. Though I shoot for 8-10 glasses. I definitely need to make this my focus. It's great to be reminded of this from fellow Lyme patients.
I like to juice also! I've gotten lazy with it since I've gone back to work full time.
My favorite is kale-cucumber-celery-parsley-lemon. I feel my inflammation go down quickly after drinking it on an empty stomach. It such a great way to start the day.
