I am currently on two weeks of doxy 100mg 2xday to treat residual lyme symptoms 8 weeks post EM rash.

Back when the rash first started in July, I was initially given Augmentin 875mg 2x/day but the rash still grew. After two days, my doctor switched antibiotics and treated me for two weeks with doxy 100mg 1x day. It treated my rash, but I developed my left side tingling, headaches, neck pain, nausea, vertigo, and floaters, which have not gone away.

My doctor does not think my symptoms are lyme related, but is treating me just "in case" with the 200mg.

I asked about additional antibiotics until I am symptom free, but she said she will not give more because 2 weeks is sufficient and I have essentially been treated twice. Anything else is not considered lyme to her. She also refered me to physical therapy!!

If I still have sypmtoms after my doxy treatment is finished (I have 4 days to go, my symptoms have jumped bilaterally and are now only on my right side), is it appropriate to take the remaining course of my Augmentin? (12 days, 875mg 2x/day)

Thank you in advance for any advice you can give!

Wow, I would get to an LLMD ASAP!!!

An LLMD would most likely give you 400mg a day of Doxy. That's the recommended dose for lyme. If you have symptoms after an EM rash what the He$$ does your doctor think its from then?

I would switch now and save yourself lots of suffering. I don't mean to scare you but you caught it early so treat it the right way and move on with your life. You do not want to be in treatment for years.

Go to the seeking a doctor section and find a good LLMD in Wisconsin. Best of luck to you!

She now thinks I had cellulitis (I had a negative lyme titer take 2 days after rash onset), and unrelated I have tennis elbow in my left arm (I am right handed), plantars fasciitis, vertigo NOS, and post Lasik vision problems (I had lasik in 2004). All symptoms started AFTER the rash.

I have posted here for a LLMD but the soonest I can get into one of the several referred to me is the end of October (some are even going into 2012).

How do I get antibiotics now? I tried to get around my dr. to a infectious disease specialist. He reviewed my chart and said since the titer was negative and I have been treated for Lyme twice, it is obvious I do not have lyme. He advised me to go back to my primary and get a referral to neuro.

I am very frustrated with the system. How do you find a doctor that will treat you with antibiotics right now ????

Are my Augmentin safe in the meantime? I read in the "Top 10 Treatments for Lyme" that augmentin/amoxy is a cell wall inhibitor and will help the bacteria grow faster and stronger. Is that true?

All of your symptoms sound like my lyme symptoms. It's doubtful you would have vision problems from Lasik 7 years later. I would keep your LLMD appt. for October. Also, call and see if they have cancelations periodically.

Before being diagnosed (1 year after having initial symptoms) I saw 3 neurologists. No one could find anything wrong. They finally decided it was all in my head and told me to take anti-depressants.

The only doctors that will treat with antibiotics are usually LLMD's. I have taken Augmentin. Some say it works well and others, like me, didn't notice much of anything. I would say it's worth a try since you do not have any other choice right now. You could call the LLMD that can see you in October and tell them your story and that you cannot get antibiotics. Maybe the LLMD would prescribe them until you see him/her? A good LLMD would see that you have been under-treated TWICE and that you have the symptoms.

FYI-My LLMD said that in the first 10 days after being bitten many WILL NOT have a positive titer! The tests are so inaccurate and many doctors have no clue on how to recognize or treat lyme (at least from my experience).

Trust your instinct and find the best LLMD you can.
