Does that time of the month enhance all your symptoms? For some reason, it does for me, and I cry ALOT! I just feel so much pain, that I don't want to wake up....
Wondering if I am alone in this...

If someone is not a female, are they allowed to contribute to this thread? I think I have something good to say.

Yes, its the worst time of the month for me. I also wonder if this is my 28 day lyme cycle which my LLMD says is common for women.

I have endometriosis and the pain becomes unbearable along with the tummy issues like diarrhea. NOT FUN! My mental symptoms are off the charts with crying, irritability and anger. I threaten to divorce my husband every month..LOL.. poor guy. I think he knows by now that this all lyme and co.

You know, Jamers, endometriosis is commonly caused by iodine deficiency. Just don't expect any doctors to tell you that. Have you read the iodine information thread?
http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=111304;p=0

I'll be you anything that you also have thyroid problems (which is also a big indication of iodine deficiency). My guess is that you at least have enlarged thyroids or goiter.

There really should be a guide for spouses of lyme sufferers. It would make our life so much easier! :-)

I think my already bad fatigue goes through the roof every 4 weeks or so.

I thought maybe this was a herx but you know what - it is prob my cycle! I don't get periods (thanks to endometriosis have to do continuous BC pills to maintain it from growing back).. so I just dont' know when my actual cycle is.. it is so weird, I know.

James - I glanced over your iodine thread briefly. will have to read more in detail when I am not such a zombie.
Quick question though - and I can post this on that thread if that's better - can you just start supplementing with iodine drops without any testing or diagnosis? I would not know how I might be deficient..

I don't have my "female" parts, so I thought I was crazy when I noticed "a cycle" to this issue.

I also get worse symptoms.....(don't laugh) according to the moon phases? I THINK?

PG - if you take about 14mg a day, it is usually completely safe for most people. If you REALLY want to be safe, just take half that amount.

The Japanese eat about 14mg a day through their regular diet, and they don't have the thyroid problems and the cancers that we have here. Also they're lower in fibrocystic breast disease, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and other things that are caused by iodine deficiencies.

If you ever feel sick while taking iodine, just back off and there's no harm done. But usually most people notice great benefits, so they end up loving it.

I'm taking 50-100mg a day, and I feel great. I just sent my iodine test in yesterday, and I'm just curious how deficient I am. But it's not necessary to test, IMO. There's info on the test in the Iodine thread.

I feel like shouting to everybody that they should learn about iodine, but people don't think it's a big deal (probably because they never heard about it from their doctors). I think it's a huge deal, and over 95% of us are deficient, and it's affecting our immune systems. People are sitting here talking about thyroid problems, breast cancer, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, lowered body temperatures and cold extremities, and all of these things can be directly caused by iodine deficiencies.

Jamers - come back and tell us if you have thyroid problems! I'm curious, and I want to win my little bet. Let me raise the stakes a little: If you don't have any thyroid problems, I'll show you guys some of my PMS artwork for free.

I feel my body tense up several days before and all kinds of lymie stuff get worse.

I have had endometriosis and ovarian cysts for yrs, I have got to get some iodine!!!!

Thanks James! I need to get me some Iodine!

Hey - I am Japanese - why am I so deficient? Maybe I am not and just have bad luck with endometriosis and fatigue.. [Frown]

I do eat a LOT of seaweed. I munch on them like there is no tomorrow.

That is prob why my hair is so shiny and thick.. [Big Grin]

wow I didn't know so many suffered from endometriosis on this site! At least I don't feel so alone! but hopefully we can all help it with iodine. I hate depending on these darn birth control pills - I know they are not helping any candida issues either, so it's like a vicious cycle..

When is the full moon? I remember it was around the 19th or 20th of each month? Well we have some time to relax then I guess! The worst would be getting your period AND it being the full moon on the same day!

James Quick question- does it matter what kind of iodine I get? I have heard some say that rubbing iodine on their skin helped. Can I just get the Povidone iodine from the pharmacy or do I need to get a special kind?

PG - I didn't know you were Japanese!
あなたは日本語を話せますか?私のお尻のマウス 364;あります。 !! [Big Grin] [Smile]

Concerning your question about why you're deficient: you answered the question yourself. The estrogen from the birth control pills blocks iodine uptake. So IF you were following a traditional Japanese diet, you would still need more iodine than the other Japs because of the birth control pills.

But even besides that, in general we're exposed to more toxins today that inhibit iodine uptake. For example, you might be drinking fluoridated water, or have fluoride in your toothpaste, and these cause you to need more iodine in order to remain sufficient.

gigi- I would just get Lugol's 2% solution, and put 2 drops in your mouth every day. It's cheap and it's easy. It would be good for you to read the iodine thread. It might benefit you for the rest of your life, and it would take less time than a visit to the quack. [Smile]

Hey ladies - in general, let's just try to keep this on the down low, okay? I mean... that I'm... you know... participating in the "female" thread. I don't want people hearing about this, okay?

Something about your hamster? Huh? lol
Yeah I speak some but it has been so long since I have been back in Tokyo. Forget about formal Japanese - I could never get a job in Japan. But I speak Japenglish with my parents. My siblings don't really speak at all except for my oldest brother who can translate professionally so he is the expert among us.

Yeah I am going to eventually wean off the BC pills. In the meantime I will just up the iodine.

The week before my period is the worst. Lots of fatigue, sometimes crying (Used to be a lot worse), and outright *****y-ness.

The other day I screamed at the TV for not turning on.

Moon cycles are also to blame, especially in the case of Parasites. Parasite eggs are said to hatch around a full moon. So when they say the "crazies" come out to howl at the moon, they weren't lyin!!

Moon cycle/ Menstrual Cycle.... same thing.

Awww James, you don't want people to know that you are in touch with your feminine side?

Yes - Alice they hatch around the full moon! So I heard it is best to start parasite treatment right before the full moon to get the full effect..

James - you can't hide!! might as well just embrace it!!

This is hilarious and TRUE!! I get sooo over emotional each month, my husband knows when to hide away. I am pretty sure I always threaten him with divorce as well, then apologize the next day. It is as if my emotions are completely uncontrollable. I feel bad, and I cry ALOT for no reason. I can be at work just fine, and then my eyes fill up with tears. It sux! Glad to know I am not alone!
Also James, you should always share your input! It's good advice! I am also hypothyroid, should I be on iodine as well? Is this something they place in the synthroid to help?

Thanks again for everyone's responses!
And the moon cycle thing is VERY interesting! I also get migraines around that time, and then a very sore next and back.
Interesting stuff I learn on here...Thanks everyone! [Smile]

Also one question about the moon cycle....do you think the cycle re-adjusts to coincide with the female cycle? For any specific reason? I dunno...just throwing out thoughts, but during out cycle we eat more carbs, have a higher temp....does this help the parasitic cycle flourish in our bodies at the same time?

just to add another data point:

I don't get any behavior/mood changes with my periods and the Lyme symptoms don't seem to be affected in the least,

except my GI tract: it can flare during that time with cramps and bloating and constipation and general dysfunction and pain until the whole thing is over - that can be extra annoying - other sysmptoms don't flare with period in the least in me

I DO flare with foods! dairy/yogurt/cheese got me horrible anger attacks and angry night mares during a provokation trial one week and if I get into something I shouldn't have (dairy, wheat, gluten, corn, sugars, etc.) my hubby usually jokes around about him and the animals having to go into hiding for a few days

we have noticed that in foods with me but not with periods - strange, eh? we're not all the same...

[bonk]

SickLYme - you asked about hypothyroid and iodine. IMHO, I think you should definitely look into iodine supplementation. I would read the iodine thread if I were you:
http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=111304;p=0

Most cases of hypothyroid are related to iodine deficiencies. If you leave yourself deficient, you're opening yourself up to the possibility of many greater problems in the future, including all kinds of cancers.

Don't regard the fact that most doctors are clueless about it. Most doctors seem to be clueless about everything these days... [shake]
