So 2 weeks ago I started pulsing in zith 4 days a week. Also on rifampin, and mino. I can't even handle the full 4 days. My heart is pounding by the 3rd dose, anxiety is worse, weak, I just feel like crap.
On saturday (of course it had to be on my sisters wedding day)my ribs under my arms started to kill and they hurt worse when I press on them. I was considering going to the er, but you know how that goes.
What should I do? Should I just cut the dose in half, or stop it altogether. Could this be babs coming out? I don't know what to do. Which infection makes your ribs hurt? Thanks for any help!!

Lyme gets into the cartilage that connects to the ends of the ribs. There is a long technical name for it, which I can't remember how to spell at the moment. I would say this is probably herx.

Lyme loves cartilage. Not much circulation gets into it so the bacteria are inaccessible to immune system.

The rib inflammation could be costochondritis. It was one of my first symptoms, and one of the most persistent. I would certainly recommend that you check in with a doctor, though. Someone recently posted about how not all chest pain is Lyme. Have you had your heart checked?
Usually, if it hurts where you press on the rib, that is costochondritis. When mine is really flaring, I barely have to touch it without flinching and yelping. It hurts to breathe, laugh, bend over, twist, reach for things, etc.
I can't take NSAIDs, so I relied on heat to deal with the pain.
The pain has gone through cycles on my treatment. When I have herxed, it has become acute, then it faded into the background.
I wish you the best...it is a symptom that (knock on wood) I haven't had in quite a while, and I don't miss it.

I had the same rib pain as well as pain surrounding all of my joints. My doc says it is a bartonella symptom. I have been on Rifampin and biaxin for many months and it has taken away my rib pain. It is likely that the die off is causing you to develop inflammation.
You need to detox and possibly lower the dosage of meds. You can increase them again once your symptoms have calmed down.
Does your doctor do any glutithione iv's or injections? This would help detoxify the body.
Also go on a strict diet if you are not already on one. No sugar, low carbs and high fiber. The fiber will help remove the toxins from the body. Do you ever have problems with bowel movents? You need to make sure you drink lots of water and keep you bowels moving. This also helps with toxin removal.
Start taking bromelain 3 times a day on about 30 min. before meals. It helps with inflammation. Milk thistle 250 once daily will also help cleanse the liver and remove toxic build up.
I found that using a sauna and sweating a lot really helps my pain symptoms. It is a great detoxifier. I hope this helps.

I have had inflamation of my rib cage for 2 years now. My pcp just looks at me like I have a third eye or something when I would tell her about it. She never checked it out.
It wasn't until I learned I had lyme and my lyme dr told me it was related to that. Definately inflamation of the rib cage. However I have not had relief as of yet. Its just good to know why you have it.
Take care
