Just got the call from our pediatrician, my daughter tested positive for Lyme. You have no idea how much I wanted her to be negative! But she is doing treatment, 3 week course of antibiotics and I will request more blood work after.
What else can I do for her? I am guessing I caught this before it got out of control, so I am happy about that. But I wonder should I be giving her vitamins or supplements that might help fight this? Anything to avoid?

- Be sure to separate the yogurt from the antibiotics by a couple hours, each direction for a couple reasons: calcuim can void the antibiotic effect and also the Rx will destroy the probiotics in yogurt.
Three weeks of one single Rx is not enough.
Also, there is never a need to repeat the lyme test. Another test in 3 weeks' time (or even 3 months) will just be a waste of money.
Lyme does not test the same way as other infections and it cannot be treated in the same way, either.
There is no actual "cure" for lyme at this point in time. Still, many can get better.
There is no test that can tell if lyme has "disappeared" and with just one single antibiotic, it often goes into cyst form, that evades testing but then comes out later.
Lyme morphs. Something needs to be taken to address the different forms (cyst, etc). and to also work on the BIOFILM. Antibiotics are not enough alone and do not work on all forms of lyme.
But, treatment should last for 2 months past the time when the patient feels good.
Sorry but I don't have the energy to explain all that.
I hope you can find a good ILADS-educated MD. An ILADS-educated LL ND (naturopathic doctor) might also be a consideration for the support methods if the LLMD does not address that part of the equation.
She is likely looking at six months of treatment / specific support, at least, for a month-old infection. And this would be combination treatment that will likely be rotated from time to time.
The LLMD should also ASSESS OTHER TICK BORNE INFECTIONS that often travel with lyme.

I agree... I would want 6-8 wks of doxy if I were recently bitten.
I know too much!!
Yogurt is usually full of sugar and that can be counter-productive with taking antibiotics long term. And I think 6-8 wks is a long time.

- The thing to remember about doxycycline alone is that (within 20 minutes) it will cause the spirochetes to go into cyst form and another Rx is needed for that.
Doxy also does not cover Babesia, a common coinfection. Antimalarials (Antiprotozoal drugs) are needed for that.
About yogurt - Funny, I never consider that anyone would buy sugared yogurt since all I've bought for 30 years is the real kind, nothing added.
I just forget that there's this whole other world full of sugar or toxic fake sweeteners.
STEVIA (from plants) can sweeten it. SweetLeaf Stevia Clear is the one I like the best.
Dark berries can be added but ask your LLMD if this is okay if candida is flaring - or vanilla extract and pumpkin pie spices, etc.
Lemon Juice is nice in yogurt, too. So is cocoa powder or carob root powder and stevia with some walnut oil and maybe some ground flax seeds.
You want yogurt from cows that are not pumped full of rBGH (bovine growth hormone). Organic yogurt is best but, even then, make sure it does not contain powdered milk (some do and that is not good). -
