Back when my kids were just little, we went to the Pittsburgh area to a country carnival/animal 4-H fair. I remember walking thru high grass and fields.
Just a few days later, my mom made a special dinner, but one I'd had many times before.
2 or 3 hours later, I was on the bathroom floor unable to move. My head was pounding, esp behind one eye, I was freezing cold, vomiting, diarrhea. For the first time in my life I thought I might have to go to the ER.
I remember thinking there was an alien in my body that needed to get out.
We tried to figure it out, was it food poisoning? But I was the only one who became ill.
Exactly one week later, we had a repeat of that meal (out of the freezer) and the exact same thing happened to me again.
THen one month later, it happened again. Same thing exactly.
Since I couldn't pinpoint it on food poisoning, the only thing I'd come up with was that I'd gotten an allergy to the meat we'd had (my dad raised rabbits for meat).
But I'd eaten rabbit dozens of times before and I'd never heard of a meat allergy. (I don't have any allergies at all, food or other.)
So for all these years, I'd figured I must have developed a meat allergy to rabbit meat.
Then a good "lyme" friend told me her illness began exactly the same way - on the bathroom floor unable to move. And then it happened to her again a week later - exact same thing. So now, I'm wondering if maybe it wasn't the start of a babesia infection or something.
This happened to me about 15 years ago. I've been energy tested to have been infected at least 15 years and both my kids likely got infected about 15 years ago too (or at birth and my youngest is 15).
Has anyone else had an experience like this?

I guess mine is somewhat similar.
My illness began after a trip to Oklahoma. We went horseback riding and were told to check ourselves for ticks. Didn't find any, but I sure wish I'd looked closer.
I felt weird and very irritable for days after that. Then when I was home, about a week later, I got a violent flu. It was the day after July 4th, so I thought it was food poisoning. But it didn't act like food poisoning.
I went to the doctor, and I've never gone to the doctor for flu. I thought I was going to die. High fever, chills, sweating, headache, vomiting, extreme neck and back pain, weakness, fainting. I spent three days in bed and three more days recuperating.
But I had no further symptoms for the next 2 years. I reactivated my latent infections during a time of intense stress. Then it was 15 years to get a correct diagnosis.
I know that was my Babesia tick flu. Sure wish the doctor had figured it out.

Oh yeah. When my Lyme and co-infections became active again, I developed tons of food allergies. I'd never been allergic to anything in my life prior to that.

If it hadn't happened the next time you ate that meal, I'd say it likely was, but since it happened a second time, it sure sounds like the meal.
I did have that happen and think it may have been the onset of Lyme (the first exposure back in 1972), but it only happened once.

My food allergies are out of control as well. Has anyone here's allergies gotten to the point of anaphylaxis? Please tell me that's not where I'm headed!

My allergies to shellfish have become anaphylactic in nature. I have to carry an epipen. This happened after I was better from Lyme .... though the allergy started before I even got sick. It has progressed over the past decade.

Those articles are interesting, jklynd. I never had any reaction like itching or rashes or hives. Just my body trying to get something out of it. I was sick for a few hours, all three times.
I've never had anything like it before or since.
Would it be possible to become allergic to only rabbit meat, not all red meat? I've never eaten rabbit again - too scared.
Six, I thought food poison too but why only me and not the other 7 people who ate it with me? When I heard my girl friend tell the same kind of story, it just really put a question in my mind.
Boxermom, when you had that violent flu, how long were you sick? Hours or days?
As I write this, I remember my dad getting a terrible stomach flu a few years ago. ON the bathroom floor unable to move. He got the exact same thing a week later and then a few months later (1 or 2) again.
I am thoroughly convinced he has Babesia - dry cough for years, pregnant belly, has to have his throat stretched every so often, and a few other symptoms. Maybe that flu is related to infection. Hmmmm.

No, I don't think it was food poisoning. But it is odd that you got sick from the exact same meal a month apart. That's why it sounds like the meal.

17hens--interesting about the throat stretching. My sister has to have that.
I've had two bouts of the highest fever I could ever imagine. Once was November 06. After 4 days, it was still high. I thought I would die. Husband took me to doctor, put me on Levaquin, and I was fine until I got a flu shot 2 weeks later. The rest is history.
Then this last Februrary when I went off Babs meds. Same exact fever, same dying feeling.
No one in my family has had the stomach flu repeat a week or month later. We've all had the stomach flu though. Two of us have Babs.
Based on those articles, red meat can be a culprit. For you, rabbit meat. I've never had rabbit meat in my life. Is it any good? Not that I'm going to rush out and buy any.
