A friend of mine just had her labs done through a idsa Dr that, lets just say, she is moving on from.

She had a positive EIA or ELISA 1.23

LabCorp Western blot results
IgM 41 positive only (tested only 41 29 and 33)
IgG 66 and 41 positive

EBV titers through the roof high. 8.0

Red Blood Cell count, hemocrit, hemoglobin are low too, I know this points to Babesia....

Does a positive EIA definitively mean Lyme or can it cross-react with say a virus or co-infection? She will see an ILADS Dr soon.... Any insight would greatly help,
Thanks,
MurphyNC

I'm pretty sure a positive ELISA is something you can take to the bank. Some IDSA "doctors" will say that if the WB is not clearly positive then the ELISA is a false positive. NICE TRY.

The ELISA is known for false NEGATIVES.

She may want to get a test thru Igenex now... where they actually test for ALL possible bands.

test #188 and 189

The reason a Western Blot is supposed to be run if the ELISA is equivocal or positive is because the ELISA can generate a false positive.

"Can" says nothing about how common it is.
