I donated blood 17 years ago and it was rejected with a letter saying that it WASN'T HIV, but a tropical virus....(never been south of georgia) Anyway, sickly symptoms didn't start until two years ago, and Lyme diagnosis a couple weeks ago. Is it possible it's been dormant in my system or more probable that I got bitten a couple years ago when I got sick? Just trying to pinpoint how long I've had it. Thanks

Can lay dormant for many years, even decades. It's always possible too that you got another bite.

I'm wondering if babesia showed up on the test? That would be my guess.

Lyme can go dormant .. and I carried babesia as well for many many years.

I was bit about 16 years ago. That is the only time I ever knew of being bit and the tick was fully engorged with blood. I never had a rash and my mom did take me to the hospital. They prescribed me abx, an adult dose (i was a very tine 13 yr old) The abx made me very ill and the doc had me stop them when my mom took me back. And that was that....

Never had symptoms until I was about 24 years old. The dr's all say it could have lied dormant all of those years and something traumatic happening to your body may have brought it out (such as an accident, surgery, birth of a child, another illness). In my case, I believe it was the birth of my 2nd child.

OR they say I could have been bit again and just never knew it.

It's one of those things people like us will never ever know...one of those unanswered questions in life.
