Hi All,

Hope you're well.

I've started consulting with a rather controversial MD, who believes my vomiting episodes are due to adrenaline surges (which I happen to agree with). He told me many creative people need to eat low GI carbs every three hours, plus supplement for low stomach acid (which I'm doing w apple cider vinegar in water). It's still a bit of a roller coaster, but becoming less so daily, and I haven't vomited in 6 days, without requiring Tylenol, and that in itself is a small miracle.

Dr. believes root cause is hormonal imbalance -- supplementation w bioidentical progesterone is the solution.

I'm pretty fed up with the adrenaline surges / vomiting. If I forgo the progesterone altogether, and just stick w the dietary changes, do you think my body will just sort itself out? Do you think that's worth trying?

Best,

canbrave, lyme is a big endocrine disruptor. Get your cortisol levels checked. Cortisol is

responsible for sodium levels in the body. If your levels get too low, you get nauseous and

start vomiting. This happened to me. I think that lyme attacked my pituitary and the anterior

portion of my pituitary, except for growth hormone, does not work. The sex hormones and

thyroid hormones all act together to keep each other in balance in varying degrees. It is lack

of cortisol not adrenaline surges that may be causing this. You need a full hormone panel

work-up from a GP or your lyme doc. If you do not get a good answer from him or her, get to just a

regular doc and request this. Make sure you are in a cycle of vomiting so if you are deficient,

this will show. Also, get your hormones checked first thing of the day.

Thanks, Otter!

Saliva cortisol was sent to the lab this past Monday; I did aldosterone and some others a few weeks ago (they needed to be done right after my period), but didn't get the rest done (incl free t3 and free t4) until yesterday, and it was in the afternoon! Plus, I'm finally not in a vomiting cycle (which Ive pretty well been in for ten years!) due to changes in diet. (less protein; who would've thunk!)

I didn't vomit on the day I did the saliva cortisol, BUT I felt like crap, with lots of adrenaline surges.

Think I need to re-do the hormones I did yesterday afternoon? Hope not; so sick of this, but will do, if necessary.

No doubt all this is due to Lyme, but question is a) what exactly did Lyme do to my endocrine system, and b) how should it be treated.

Doctor's theory is that creative people's brains require a lot of fuel; people produce adrenaline when not in fight / flight when their brain calls out for sugar, and it's not available because one is over-producing insulin. Insulin overproduction is due to estrogen dominance / low progesterone, and with progesterone supplementation, plus changes in diet to stabilize blood sugar, the situation can be remedied. Of course, adrenal support and thyroid may also be required.

Thoughts?

I love progesterone. I sure would give it a try. It is the calming hormone, the one that helps you sleep and gives you a feeling of being at peace. It does not have the same side effects that estrogen can have.

Thanks, guys. I think the doc got the prescription wrong -- 100mg 4x / day for two weeks (total 400!), then 50mg 4x day -- any of you heard of such large doses?
