Just wondering if anyone is using and can recommend a topical ibuprohen or nsaid cream. The pain in my feet got so bad last night that I took 2 ibuprophen even though it wreaks havoc on my gut. I was surprised how well it worked on the pain.
been doing a little research online. and it seems these creams are hard to get otc in the US, but are easy to get in canada in europe. there is a prescription here called voltaren gel. Has anyone used this?
suggestions and experiences would be appreciated.

Have you tried Zyflamend made by New Chapter? It's not a lotion, it's an oral supplement. It's an herbal COX2 inhibitor, without the side effects of rx NSAIDs such as stomach irritation and blood pressure increase. They make a liquid now too (although I haven't tried the liquid).
They stock it in the Vitamin Shoppe chain (and online) and I've seen it at other health stores as well.

Voltaren gel- Excellent- Insert warnings suggest you "meter" the amount you apply- they give you a book of little "test strips" that you squeeze out a "metered" amount.. They want to make sure if you are taking oral meds related to Voltaren,(e.g.Diclofenac,you don't overdo it)
Was recommended to me by a podiatrist for an acute case of plantar fasciitis,(related to Lyme) but numerous PCP's/Regular MD's are now prescribing it.
If you are especially sensitive to any oral meds,meaning aspirin,ibuprofen,acetominophen,it allows you to just apply topically in the area where the pain is.(No gastrointestinal upset.) Why didn't they think of this sooner?

My LLMD gave me the Voltaren gel. Works well when you have pain in one spot.

I tried it, must have used too much. Very nauseated and sick.

You can find several brands of ibuprofen cream if you search at Amazon.com.
Check the different vendors that carry each product...mailing from U.K. will take about ten days.

Hi Julie, I did look at the zyflamend. I have so many herb and grass allergies I hesitated on that. although I love the idea of it. I seem to have trouble with natural remedies that I have to take day in and day out...they cause even more inflammation.
Carol, I did search amazon, I was wondering if anyone had a brand they liked. and if it caused stomach upset. Have you used one that worked for you?
Joe, Ruby, did using the voltaren on one or two spots cause you stomach problems? did it help the pain as much as taking pills?
doubt my insurance will cover the Voltaren gel (it is not listed)
but I took the ibuprophen again last night and I am waking up with so much less pain in my feet. I just know I can't continue it so looking for a solution.

- (Adding to clarify) For oral,
Since Ibuprofen can be hard on the kidneys, be sure to drink LOTS and LOTS of water, even before bedtime.
It might still be a good idea to drink a good amount of water if you use a topical ibuprofen very often, and the right amount of water daily is really important to help relieve pain, too
(though just water alone, obviously, is often not enough it can help toxins that cause pain to move on out).
Curcumin capsules are a big help to me. It's one ingredient in Zyflamend (suggested above) but if you are concerned about other ingredients in that, you can get just straight Turmeric capsules, or the stronger Turmeric EXTRACT that is called Curcumin.
Corydalis & Angelica combination is also very good:

The idea behind the gel is that you apply it topically just where you need it.- Even though it is absorbed into your body, it doesn't require the gastrointestinal system to do it.
So,as I mentioned, if your GI system is overly sensitive, this gives you a way to bypass it entirely...
I get it (Rx) in a 100 gram squeeze tube- it's marked Voltaren gel (diclofenac sodium topical gel)1%.
To give an idea of how long it lasts,the original tube is over a year old, and I still have 25-30% still in it,and that's even with the wife using it from time to time for stiff neck or backache.
You may want to check with your Dr., because it does have sodium as one of it's components- so, if you can't take pills like Aleve (naproxen sodium), the Voltaren would probably affect you the same way.
Didn't really answer your 2nd question- As far as I'm concerned, anything that doesn't have to pass through either my stomach or liver to be metabolized is a plus. For me, it works much better than any pills,and I've been prescribed a few different ones that I've just had to tell my Dr. next visit, "These just aren't working".

Good to have your input Joe. Glad to hear it works. It is mostly my feet at this point so I think a topical might work. I know I am pushing my luck by taking the pills. But have just loved waking up almost pain free. I am going to ask my doctor about it.

The Voltarin gel didn't cause any stomach upset or other problems for me.
I can use 1/2 what the recommended dose is and cover an entire foot and ankle. A little of the cream goes a long way. Just like Joe said above, I bet this tube will last for a long time yet.
It doesn't completely get rid of the pain, but it takes the edge off and saves me from taking another pill!

I also have alot of pain in my feet. I use Aspercream. It words great for me. I don't know if this is what you were looking for or not.
