I have been on mepron for about 8 months or so. One LLMD I spoke with said if you have been on it that long and still have sx the mepron is not working. Another says it's normal to be on it well over a year.
Who is right here? Babs folks please let me know how long you had to take Mepron.

I've been on it almost two years. Most symptoms resolved in the first nine months. My doc doesn't believe in taking you off anything, when still in treatment.
I'm kind of fond of it by now....I'd rather be on it, then have symptoms return!

I had to take a break this week, about to go back on. Been on two months, my symptoms were fierce week 6.
averagejoe, any improvement ? My therapist beat it in four to six months.

I am on my eight month. I have a friend who was on it for 3 4 month courses....I take it without zith now, three weeks on and one week off to avoid the babs becoming resistant. The first months are tough-it gets easier as the months go by...but the cost is incredible and I agree, going off of it and having the babesia come back is not acceptable. I would rather take it longer to make sure its totally gone...if I can get there....

Are you saying your doc treats bart, lyme, and babs at the same time and keeps you on everything until you are well?
If so, what are you taking for bart? I was on Bactrim DS for 1 year, but it didn't seem to help Bart at all. I now switched to A-Bart since I am still treating babs with Malarone and Biaxin.

That's pretty much how she works. I like her treatment style because we've been able to know what is working, and what is not, and kept progressing, and not regressing.
She has reduced Tindamax, to one week off a month, and reduced the amount of Ceftin daily. But, we've never taken away an drug completely.
Currently I am not taking anything for Bart. I test positive by Fry smear for the hemobartonella, and couldn't tolerate Rifampin. I'm sure it was working, but the side effects were horrible.
I see my llmd next week, and we will decide if we add levaquin or A-bart. Personally, I'd like to start weening off all this stuff.
Has you doc talked about Rifampin or levaquin, as an addition to your current protocol?

My daugher has been on the mepron / zith since May of 2010 (18 months). For babs but also for lyme.
We believe the babs symptoms finally disappeared between months 12 and 14.
Also when she first started in May of 2010 she became worse with herxing and or the progression of the diseases for the next 8 - 10 weeks before we started to see any positive results.

I only took it for 4 mos before my symptoms started to return (and developed new symptoms), so I had to go off it and move on to some Bart meds (first doc missed the bart and other cos). But once I've got a handle on the bart, I'm back on these again.

I have seen some cognitive improvement but still have the night sweats, the crushing fatigue blah blah. This makes me question whether it is in fact babs that is causing the issues.
The doc that said it shouldn't take that long suggested switching to malerone as he has had better results with it.
When I started on the Mepron that doc told me they could get rid of it in 5-6 months. Obviously that is not the case. I am taking a high dose and it isn't gone yet so........
Any malerone or a-bart peeps care to weigh in?

I was on A-Bart it is very strong...start slowly if you notice herx with one drop then you'll know you have bart...i got up o 15 drops bid until the c diff came back and had to stop it. I am using one drop mixed with cream on my feet every other night or so-trying that method..it stops the shooting pains i get but also messes with my stomach a little. A bart definitely has a kick to it...don't know if it will cure anything but I made a lot of progression when I was on AL A Bart and A Bab.

Thanks for the input all. I do need to clear one thing up though. I asked about a-bart when I should have said a-babs since that is whats in question...........oops.
If anyone else has input for or against the malerone and a-babs I would appreciate it. Not exactly sure which way to turn here.
