I've been on acid reflux med for almost 13 yrs now. I found out several yrs ago I probably needed more acid instead of less but whatever I tried then didn't work and I wasn't sure what else to do- I had to have relief.

I've tried many times to stop the Medicine but the heartburn pain is just too bad.

I read on here that HCL and enzymes or organic apple cider vinegar and enzymes should work, but how do I transition?

I just started Wobenzym a couple days ago, just not sure what'll happen if I add HCL or the vinegar while still on the med.

Also, I started Parastroy today and have had kind of like a raw feeling in my throat. This is not an uncommon feeling for me but I have to wonder if it's the herbs. There are a few that I've had trouble with in the past.

Gona keep trying tho unless it gets really bad. I feel like what I'm doing now will be a good start until my first LLMD appt in Feb.: Iodoral (started last wk), Wobenzym, probiotics, Parastroy and supplements I was already on. And homeopathics as needed.

Anybody else get off of long term acid reflux meds using the enzymes, etc.?

I think you're trying to do too many things at once. Wobenzym MIGHT make matter worse for your stomach. Does mine.

I had a plan written down for switching over, but I gave up. Couldn't do it.

I tried to take Zantac today instead and now my stomach is not happy. I was going to take 2 a day for awhile then go to one.

Not sure I will make it.

Apple cider vinegar?? no way for me..HCL.. no way

Parastroy .. no way

For sure, don't do all of those at once.

Just my experience.

I've tried the apple cider vinegar before by itself but that was terrible.

I have a history of trying to do too much at once [Smile]

But, I get started researching and there's always "if u do this, then u need to do that too and this other thing, etc" so I try to cover all my bases.

Oh well, guess I'll try to focus on the parasite cleanse. Forgot, I'm waiting on my order of chlorella to get here. Think I do need that for detox as I kill parasites.

Taper off the reflux meds slowly. There will be rebound effect (increased reflux symptoms) if you stop them too quickly.

An example:
Try skipping one dose every 3-4 days. If you do ok with this, then increase to skipping one dose every 2-3 days. If still ok, then try skipping a dose every 1-2 days. Etc.

Keep going like this, increasing the number of days without taking a pill, until you are only taking one pill per week. Then try going without it for 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. If ok at that point, then it is probably ok to stop completely.

Homeopathic Nux V. (take as needed) may help with the reflux/heartburn symptoms.

Digestive enzymes, DGL, HCL, getting enough salt and water (not juice, pop, tea-even herbal tea, coffee, etc.) during the day are important steps to take, but start on these one at a time.

I took heartburn meds a long time ago, but found that the heartburn I was experiencing was caused by allergic and intolerance reactions to foods I was eating, and when I stopped eating the foods to which I was reacting, I stopped needing the reflux meds.

Take care,

I found a great supplement that reduces heartburn: D-limonene.
http://www.iherb.com/D-limonene-Orange-Peel-Extract

Read the reviews for the three products listed there.
I bought the Jarrow and was very pleased.

You could take D-limonene and then try reducing the prescription med.

Thanks y'all

I know I can't wean off at all before I can either a. find a natural remedy that I can tolerate or b. fix the root cause of the reflux itself (I would prefer this one).

Guess for now I'll just keep taking the Dexilant and wait til I see dr c in Feb. Maybe with Lyme and co, etc treatment the reflux will get better (not holding my breath) at least enough to take something more natural to control it.

I could try nux but it doesn't really fit me over all, but at least with that it'll either help or do nothing. That's what I like about homeopathy!

I probably have food allergies I'm not aware of too - hopefully dr c will help with that.

Guess I'm afraid to rock the boat too much because every time I have in the past it was rough.

Wonder if anybody has found Humaworm more tolerable than Parastroy gut-wise?

Ok, suddenly got clarity on why my throat is feeling like it is- been trying to figure out how to describe it- I said raw but realized it feels like a heat rash on the inside.

Like I said, I've had this before. Was afraid this might happen. But I had to try!

Gonna stop the Parastroy and Wobenzym today. Then I'll try the Wobenzym after the "rash" goes away. Pretty sure the herbs are the problem.

OLE and licorice have done this to me before but was hoping in smaller amounts I could tolerate but guess not. Was actually remembering pain in pit of my stomach was the problem but think this rash feeling happened too.

Crap. Now how do I get rid of parasites?! Oh well. Guess I'll wait on dr c - getting very tired of trying to self-treat anyway [Smile]

Have you been tested for H-pylori?

I spent 10 yrs on acid reducers. When I fell ill in 2003, the walk in clinic I first went to put me on Levaquin (which kills h-pylori) and after a week, I no longer had heartburn for the first time in a decade.

Just a thought..

Address fungal infection with nystatin and cleanse liver/gallbladder with the grapefruit/lemon juice / olive oil / magnesium sulfate stuff (after checking for stones for safety).

I haven't tried this. Can't figure out if it would work for me since I can't tolerate any citrus or anything acidic. How can this product not be acidic?

I was stuck on them for a while. I started taking a half a pill instead of a whole, take a whole when it got bad, then skipped a day now and then, a quarter every now and then...

took a few months.

Lymetoo,
The stomach has a thick mucous layer that resists acid.

The stomach secretes hydrochloric acid to tear food down into mush.
So while digesting food, the stomach contents are very acidic.

The problems arise when the valve at the top of the stomach is loose, and lets stomach contents go up into the esophagus.
The acidity burns the skin lining the esophagus...felt as "heartburn."

I don't think they understand why the extract from orange peel works.
If you don't want to order the Jarrow d-limonene from iHerb, Amazon also carries it.

I'm not promoting the treatment, I just bumped on it...

I had suffered from gastritis since early teens, for more than 25 years. In the beginning, I just didn't know what it was. Doctors kept telling me, it's because of lactose intolerance. Then because of gastritis (my stomach walls were irritated). Then the Helicobacter pilori hypothesis came.

I tried antiacids, but stopped fast (they never cure anyway).

I tried Reflex massage, it made my problem worse.

Then Acupuncture and moxibustion, I used that for decades to manage pain, but it also didn't cure (but made my life livable).

I tried diet (very strict), cut allergens, little processed foods. It helped but did not cure.

I tried classic homeoapathy, it helped, but didn't cure.

At that point I was though about 60 % better than my worst days.

What cured me was the holistic treatment my lyme practioners put me!!!

I am convinced that I suffered literally decades due to heavy metals in my GI tract. Specially mercury, from my amalgams that were put in my mouth since I was 6 or 7 years old.

I think that it was heavy metal chelation that cured my so chronic condition. The rest only gave me relief, but no cure.

I don't know if GERD could be cured the same way, and I 'm sure there are different problems for each person, but I swear that heavy metal chelation of the gut solved my chronic pain!
