I started on cat's claw again earlier this week, and my ears are ringing like crazy. I'm only taking one or two drops at a time. I have one ear that rings constantly anyway (it did before I contracted Lyme), but now they're both ringing fairly loudly and they are driving me crazy! [dizzy]

Anyone else have this problem? Anyone have a solution? I really want to try and stick with the cat's claw for a while to see if it will help.
I know magnesium is good for the ears, and I'm already taking a lot of that.

I also started taking eleuthero, but I think it's the cat's claw that is causing the tinnitus.

It looks like excess of toxins. I had the SAME problem with salt/C. I suspect the excessive killing made me have that and it lasted MONTHS. It was awful. Are you on binders?

Cats claw is very powerful. Very.

DD had this exact same problem. She had to take breaks between dosing for the ringing to go away, usually went away in 2 or 3 days after being off Cat's Claw. And, she never got above 3 drops twice a day.

Take vit B-complex too--it helps a lot with helping the ringing diminish--

She ended up stopping the cat's claw so I can't remember now if she ever tolerated it without the ringing--sorry!

Oh my gosh. I can't believe I came across this post.

I am having debilitating ringing in my ears... can't sleep... have to stop abx for now.....

I'm really freaking out about this ringing. I started going through all of my sups and wondered if the cat's claw might be causing it.

I'm hoping this won't be permanent as I can't go with out sleep or abx.

I have seen the other link with lots of information.

Has anyone else noticed Cat's claw related to tinittus?

Are you talking about the real Cat's Claw

or the TOA-free such as Samento or other brand?

I see that you are talking about alcohol tincture, as you mention "drops" (unless you have a glycerite tincture but I've never seen that with cat's claw).

The TOA-free kind has a greater chance of causing tinnitus as it's the TOA in regular cat's claw that is calming to the nerve fibers.

For some, alcohol tinctures exasperate tinnitus.

If the alcohol is organic, it has a better chance of not doing that but, still, even one drop of an alcohol tincture can set the ears ringing. You may need much more water with it - or move to one that is organic alcohol.

Capsules may be best for you.

But, I've found that even the alcohol tincture of regular Cat's Claw tincture from Herb Pharm to calm tinnitus for me - as long as it's in at least a full cup of warm water.

You will also still need good liver support to help take toxins out of your body. It's partially toxins that can really send tinnitus to the moon.

Magnesium needs to be in 2 - 3 divided doses, never all at once. Maybe the form needs to be switched? You can go up to 1,000 - 2,000 mg a day - to bowel tolerance and then back down.

TAURINE is also excellent along with magnesium, to help calm tinnitus.

Holy Basil (Tulsi), too.

Thanks Keebler. I am taking the pills and it is not TOA free. I take 2 350 mg pills but it also says 15X or 15:1 concentrate.

I will try the magnesium and I believe I have taurine also.

I am seeing a homeopath tomorrow that will test my liver and kidneys with the asyra machine.

I'm so worried that this will be permanent.

Thanks for the tips.

Haley,

I'm not sure about the markings on that bottle. Usually something like 15X denotes a homeopathic strength and the ratio 15:1 concentrate is most often on a tincture.

Two 350 mg capsules of OLE is really a low dose.

With professional guidance, I've taken the upper dose of OLE, 16 capsules a day (450 mg) and do best at that level, divided 4 x day.

But each person's needs vary. At that dose, it was the only thing I was taking.

-----------------------

There are so many things that can cause or contribute to tinnitus.

First, be sure you are protecting your ears from harsh sound. Even with a hairdryer, ear plugs should be worn. Plugs or muffs when around a blender, vacuum, etc.

Many with lyme find that when lyme (and other infections, heavy metals, parasites, et.al.) clear, their ears are much better.

Of course, there is a concern because so many antibiotics and other Rx are ototoxic. Liver support can help, to some degree.
