SCS = Stress Control System? My LLMD gave me some literature to read. She has made it so her patients can get a good deal on it, but it is still pricey.

I have not read the literature yet, but think do I want to mess with my brain waves?

I am going to read it, but thought maybe I could get some input.

I got one a while back. It's OK but it didn't really help me a huge amount. I don't think it was worth the money. May be better to meditate with some CDs by Hemi-sync or Dr. Jeffrey Thompson...? Google it - they sell them on Amazon or from the respective websites.

First, everything messes with our brain waves. Everything. TV, computer, sounds, lights, action . . . .

It's HOW it affects them that is understandably important to you. (And so much of what we do each day is not really good for our brains.)

Dr. B stresses in his guidelines (in the section about Physical Therapy):

"NO electrical stim"

(I assume, as in stimulation from machines often used in PT's office to make certain tense muscles tense and relax).

Before I knew I had lyme I did that and was very much adversely affected - so much worse for a long time from that jolt to my system.

Later, I used a stimulation device on the ear lob - intending to stop tinnitus but it made it worse for me.

I don't know about the machine you are considering but keep in mind that exhausted adrenal systems just can't hand stimulation of any kind, usually.

Also, I don't thing ANY kind of machine that will stimulate our brain waves is a good idea.

With neuroborreliosis come a toxic neuro-excitatory response from the NMDA neuro receptors. THAT causes anxiety and panic attacks, etc.

We don't want anything to irritate already irritated nerve cells.

There is one poster here who noted that some such machine stopped or lowered her tinnitus for several hours.

So, two lyme patients can have opposite effects.

If you do get this, be absolutely certain that you can return it at least up to 30 days for a FULL refund.

Ask your LLMD about the difference in that machine and what Dr. B's instructs to avoid.

It may be that this particular machine will produce more calming effects - but if stimulation is even mentioned, I'd run for the hills.

I think this is an ALPHA-STIM machine ("Stim" for stimulation, I assume?).

I would start doing Tai Chi or Qi Gong instead. You'll positive effects on the brain waves there that are balanced.

Magnesium and Fish Oil, too, help balance the brain waves.

Referring back to Sparkle's post,

Yes, the CDs by Dr. Jeffrey Thompson are very good, indeed.

I also think that money would be better spent in other ways. Getting the right kind of music is a good start.

Dr. Thompson has studied in detail the science of sounds and music and I've found his CDs the best audio therapy I've ever done - and I've done a lot of stuff that either revs me too much or didn't seem to help.

His CDs do make a very nice, balanced & positive addition.

I've not done his comprehensive program, just a few basic CDs - at a normal price (still a stretch for my budget). Still, they were very impressive. You don't have to go over the top, just get one CD and go from there.

Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Meditation or Yoga, though, are still the best bets for helping the brain waves normalize - and an excellent diet full of rich nutrients.

------------

Just in case he's developed anything that pulses, I would avoid any pulsing or deep vibrations. Even listening to a Bose radio or CD player can be too much deep vibration for those with lyme (who have tender ears and a swollen brain).

Also avoid any pulsing lights - just in case he or others like him have added that. Some do.

I've not looked at his work in years so my comments are based on his early sleep and relaxation CDs.

Putamayo produces feel good music that will have a positive effect on your brain waves. Guaranteed.

(If music that is too fast or with strong beat is irritating, contact them to find what might work best if your ears or brain are sensitive.)

I can't handle most peppy music but I do well with most of the cuts on their "Italian Musical Odyssey" - for the full selection:

But, I would start with MOZART and HAYDN. No other composers' work has the same healing effects on brain waves. Ever. Start there.

Book to get: The Mozart Effect

Cross search through Google for: "The Mozart Effect" "brain waves"

Thanks. It is alpha stim, supposed to be relaxing, helping stress, anxiety, sleep, and pain. It is expensive and I wouldn't get a full refund. She said I can pay monthly and if I did return it it would be as if I rented it.

I think it's too much to put out, especially since I am feeling so good. Yeah, my sleep isn't great, but it is better even having quit Ambien CR. What I should do about my sleep is go back to the hypnotist, he isn't expensive and he sure took care of my pain.

I think I will pass.

Thanks again for your input.
