I've always had elevated bilirubin, and every doctor told me it's a benign condition of no consequence... nothing to worry about. Well check out this link: http://alwayswellwithin.com/practical-guides/wellness/gilberts-syndrom/. So much of what's said hits home for me (chemical sensitivities, detox issues, etc). Seems like another interesting piece of my puzzle.

I've always thought there was something more to it. Now, the question is, what can be done about it.

I know! But I think there is more to it.

I've been doing some reading and would like to re-check these facts, but here is some interesting info I have come across:

- Bilirubin is the yellow pigment that is a bi-product of a destroyed red blood cell. It is completely normal to have a small amount of it in your blood as red cells have a 120 day life span.

- The liver does "not" create bilirubin. The liver simply absorbs it from the blood and excretes it in the form of bile into the stomach. Between the liver and stomach is the gall bladder. It's purpose is to store bile until you eat. When you put food in your stomach the gall bladder contracts and excretes bile into the stomach to aid in digestion.

- Because the gall bladder stores the bile temporarily there is potential for stones to form. Certain chemical conditions have to exist for this to occur. One of those conditions is excess bilirubin. So you see there "is" a potential side effect to having high bilirubin counts! No one ever tells you that when you have Gilberts.

It also makes me wonder more on how the spleen is involved. It's the spleen that destroys the red blood cells, right? And I know sometimes it can go a little hyperactive destroying more than usual. I think there's a connection here. (And we know Lyme loves the spleen.)

I'm just scratching at the surface... want to learn more.

Very interesting. I have this too. So yes, now what to do about it? Suspecting yeast is a huge issue right now for me and bilirubin levels hit an all time high for me while treating yeast w/diflucan 10 mos. ago and bilirubin has stayed elevated ever since. Guessing the toxins from the yeast being killed off.

Your link also said can be caused by fungal toxins so I guess that could mean yeast.

To detox from yeast, and to help with aldehyde processing, one needs Molybdenum (a mineral).

Interesting. I had started the CORE and developed kidney pain. LLMD said to stop for now. Thought maybe my body was detoxing too fast and kidneys couldn't handle it.

I add ConcenTrace Trace Mineral Drops to my water once a day. That also contains Molybdenum (and a ton of other trace minerals).

Toxic mold was suppressing our immune systems, causing extreme pain, brain fog and magnifying symptoms. Four days after moving out, the healing began.

I've also had elevated Billirubin even before getting sick, but only slightly elevated, would that still count as Gilbert's Syndrome?

How high were your Billirubin levels to be detected with Gilbert's?

I def. think there is a connection to detox and high leveles. This could be why some of us got chronic lyme and others didn't.

The question is how are we suppose to lower these levels? Detox? Does Molybdenum help this I wonder?

Momlyme - I also use Concentrace Mineral drops + their Electrolyte drops called "Endure". Love it. It brings up my blood pressure and makes me feel much less dehydrated but I have to do it every day for it to work.
