i was helping husband lift some boxes which were very very very heavy. i felt my shoulder twist and omg!! it hurt. it's a constant deep aching pain circling around the entire shoulder and including the shoulder blade in the back.

so now we are looking at either a torn shoulder blade muscle (don't know what it's called) or rotator cuff.

i cannot lay on that side as the pain is pretty good. it hurts constantly and you can't touch the shoulder or the shoulder blades in the back.

the doctor wants to give me steroid shots in the shoulder but i'm thinking no way.

he says it's the only way to reduce the inflammation. that ain't true is it?? won't alleve or something work?

but man it really hurts.

I would advise you to ice it a couple times a day and take a NSAID, such as Ibuprofen, which will help reduce inflammation up until you see the dr. Be wary of the steroid shots for sure, I would try to avoid them if I could...

Sometimes surgery is necessary and will be very helpful if it is a bad tear.

Hope that it isn't too horrible and will heal well!

Try the Alleve. Steroids suppress the immune system and encourage Lyme and Co to grow. Also, maybe ice? (not sure about the ice)

So sorry for your injury.

I Am right now fighting a tear in my rotators cuff
It hurts so bad specially at night. I'm doing physical therapy and chiropractic care at the same time. That is REALLY helping. They did steroids thru electricity and also ultrasound heat therapy. I can't take motrin. I have also been icing and now have graduated to some strengthening excising. I saw my LLMD last week and he told me that when you are injured the Lyme will go right to that site causing more pain then what is usual and it will not keep you from healing but it will prolong your healing. I've been out of work for 7 weeks now but only in therapy for 3 weeks. I hope that this post helps you.

I slightly tore my rotator cuff falling down the stairs 10 years ago (I grabbed the handrail). While I can't throw a ball like I used to, the lyme never gravitated towards there.

My BIL had rotator cuff surgery and majorly regreted it. He said it only got worse.

Aleve or motrin should help with the pain. I agree with the other posters, do not get a steroid shot.

<<<<< Randibear >>>>>,

Sorry to hear of your injury, I have rotator cuff problems, right shoulder...

I keep thinking I read something about the Shoulder issues as Lyme and/or co-infection symptoms. Couldn't find the info' tho.

I'm w/ everyone here who says -NO- to Steroids, it will make the problems worse over time, even if it might temporarily relieve some inflammation. It isn't worth it.

Prayers going up that the problem resolves..I know shoulder/neck/back pain is very difficult to endure.
