Have many of you had problems taking Bactrim DS?

I started it in June... by July serious problems so stopped for a bit (LLMD concurred).

Again, am having to stop, it is serious tearing up my gastrointestional or it's contributed big

time to yeast. I have obnoxious belching, no appetite, and nausea off and on (the nausea is tolerable, but there).

I've had 3 spastic colon attacks this past month which were not fun.

I have a consult with LLMD on Tues... Just curious, thank you for any input.

I haven't been able to take it due to allergy but a friend in the past had GI distress with it.

Seemed pretty severe for him. It turned out to be a GI herx. I lost touch with him but was in touch long enough to know that he had improvement after getting beyond it.

Maybe you could do plain Bactrim vs DS and work up?

Same here... I started Bactrim DS in Mid April 2012, By Mid-May I had similar GI issues and lost about 8 lbs.

When I saw my LLPN at next visit in late June and discussed the recent GI stuff, reduce appetite, and nausea, I said I thought it was the Bactrim so we dropped it from the protocol (could have also been from the Babs die-off). She added two month of Diflucan and by mid -July I returned to a more new-normal state.

I added Bactrim DS back in Mid-Sept. GI issues are less sever this round, but I just started TindaMax pulse last week and that's a whole new set of GI issues. Also ramping up slow with some salt/c in the morning.

I'm on IV Rocephin, with oral Zith, Mepron, Bactrim, and Tindamax.

What else are you taking?

Thx for the input pocono lyme... I've backed off twice now and worked my way back up to only 1 1/2 DS pills per day, even that now seems to cause gut issues.

gmb, I am also on Tindamax (daily), Malarone, Azith, and will be adding in Omnicef soon.

I have been on combination ABX for about 5 years, but not specifically for Lyme and co's per se.

I have discovered Bactrim and Clarithromycin really affect my colon/gut.

Initially, I thought it could be GI herx as well... maybe it is, or it could be yeast which I
am battling.

Seems to have acted up again after adding in serrapeptase for my Babesia headaches... maybe I'm opening up some biofilms...

gmb, I am taking Nystatin... did you take the Diflucan daily with your ABX?

4winds,

yes, I took diflucan daily for two months while on the above ABX protocol.

The only ABX that really messed up my gut was Augmentin. My PCP siad it was most likely from the "clav" portion of the mix.

I'm only taking the Tindamax two consecutive days a week. I'm sure when I see my LLNP next month, she'll ramp it up more. This is my first round with a cyst buster. Can't wait to get home for my Monday and Tuesday night dose.

Did you ramp up TindaMax also. You seam to be on an agressive regimen. I hope somethig changes for the better soon.

later,

gmb

glm,

When I started Tindamax about 4 years ago, I could only tolerate 1/2 of a 500 mg tablet, 1x/ week, per MONTH.

I was on a regimine for C. Pneumoniae. (Doxy, Azith and Tini pulses) All of which hit me hard because I had Lyme/co's and didn't know it, even at the low dosages.

I had to slowly build up to pulsing 500 mg BID one week out of a month... it took me about 2 years to do that. Initially, it hit me pretty hard.

Now, I have been taking it daily for over a year and it keeps my legs working.

About 2 months ago, I started doing 3 weeks on, 1 week off per month, just because I have been on it so long.

That's quite a long ramp up on Tindamax.
I hope you can eventually find something less toxic that helps

I fear I'll be on some sort of maintenance therapy for the rest of my days.

March 2013 will be three years of ABX, with only the past two years with a more agressive LLNP.

god speed
