My husband was doing sooo good on rocephan. Howerver, his blood test showed elevated liver enzymes. He was on mepron the day before the IV was started. Now we read that one of the side effects of mepron is elevated liver enzymes. Our question as we wait for the doc to call: Since there was no baseline blood test before rocephin was started, were his liver enzymes already elevated from the mepron? They told him to stop the rocephin and already he feels lousy. We're also waiting for the milk thistle to arrive. Sooo disappointed

Sorry to hear about your husband's elevated liver enzymes.. You are right about the Mepron but I don't know if taking it for one day could do that but I'm no expert.

Just bumping this up for others, it's wonderful to hear IV Rocephin has helped him, don't despair I would say, better detoxing might help. Hoping you'll get some responses with people's personal experiences!

oh no you misunderstood. He was on mepron quite a while before they started the IV rocephin. I just didn't realize that one of the side effects was the elevated liver enzymes. And now I don't understand why they didn't do a baseline blood test to check the enzymes before starting the IV.

I also had to stop all ABX last Thursday 12/8 due to high liver enzymes from my 12/1 labs. Both ALT and AST were above normal range.

I've been on ABX treatment since March 2010, and up until now everything had been fine.

I was on Zith/Mepron/Omnicef from this past May thru Sept with normal AST/ALT levels. I test CMP and CBC every six weeks. So Mepron was not an issue with my liver.

In late Sept I switched over to Zith/Rifampin/Doxy. My Nov 14 labs showed just ALT rising up above normal range (AST was still normal), and doc said we needed to monitor more closely and switch out Rif if it don't improve.

I was scheduled for a PICC line and start Rocephin (and drop doxy) this week but that is now on hold. I had another CMP yesterday after one week w/o ABX. I might get results back today or tomorrow to see ALT/AST drops back within range, then decide next steps.

I really won't know if it was the Rif or the Doxy (or both) that caused my spike.

Good luck.
