Hi Keebler -- We've exchanged a couple of posts about olive leaf extract, which I'm taking, and am considering increasing the dose from four to eight caps/day; the issue is that I already have low blood pressure and low cholesterol, am concerned that increasing the dose might take those things down too much, and would appreciate any feedback you could give.

You have excellent questions. I had the same concern about low blood pressure, actually. I find OLE helps me with that (NMH, see more below). And, when I was fainting a lot due to the drop in blood pressure, OLE was the first thing I noticed that helped to control that. Yippee!

I can't answer your questions but I can offer some thoughts and hopefully, supply some good reading sources.

As for low cholesterol, OLE is not going to rid you of all you have. I hope you are getting some good fats in your diet, though, but don't worry about the numbers as long as you know you have a broad range of good fats. Include some from grass fed beef, too, and organic Ghee for the CLA, cong. linoic acid (sp?).

And Wild Planet Sardines are excellent source of fatty acids.

The liver stress from lyme / other infections can play havoc for the liver being able to make and use cholesterol and either direction can go bonkers, really.

OLE is a good liver support so I'm thinking it might help your liver better regulate cholesterol so you have it available for your brain / body to use as it should.

--

For support: If you increase anything, generally, increase only by one a day for a week or so and then only move to two a day for a full week, etc. Take it slow. Best to take most herbs 3 - 4 x day rather than all at once.

Of course, though, if acute infection, antimicrobials must be to a certain optimal dose & frequency.

--

First, I suggest only SEAGATE brand, no other unless you know they have the same growing, harvesting and processing standards and do each step themselves at their own site. This matter so very much.

Second. Have you read Morton Walker's book on OLE? That is essential - and to reread it as it's a lot to take in all at once. It's been around many years yet the science citations there are still solid.

Beyond that, for newer science and exploration, cross search at PubMed. Links in the links set below.

Well, it depends but most likely this will help the underlying REASON for various things that off kilter.

*** WHY - OH WHY - do you have low blood pressure? That's the real question. ****

If the reason is it's a result or symptom of lyme, other infections, or some other conditions for haywire functions, then OLE might just be the ticket.

Blood pressure issues with lyme often are from the damage to the autonomic &/or sympathetic nervous systems . . . capillary strength . . . and the inner ear issues, too.

When the inner ear is stressed, blood pressure will tank.

Certain medications can have an effect, too. I am not comfortable suggesting herbal approaches along with Rx, though. A good ND should be consulted for that, or one's LLMD if they are educated in herbal medicine, too.

*** then what KIND of low blood pressure , or what features present for you. It's not all the same & it can vary. What are the properties of your experience? [no answer needed, just consider] ***

Also consider that many herbs are ADAPTOGENS. My hands can't hold up to explain that here but Walker surely discusses it and it's a very searchable term, alongside "herbal"

Adaptogens support body organs / functions to help them adapt to what is needed at the time, etc.

Then, is it always low or situational such as with POTS or NMH?

I have NMH (neutrally mediated hypotension, similar to POTS and both can be caused by lyme / other chronic infections and the inflammation and other disorder they bring).

OLE helps me a lot in a better feeling of (relative) wellness. I tend to be able to stand just a little longer in kitchen, for example.

When I take it (I rotate with others) I take the upper dose of 16 a day of Seagate brand and do very well with it mainly as an anti-viral support. Though it does have various good properties that my body seems to really like.

I am far from well, however, as my budget has been a shoestring for decades but I find that OLE is certainly a trusted helper for me for many reasons. It helps my skin, pain level is less, I can think a little clearer and it helps the mouth sores.

However, I also need other things. I have not found that OLE is the best anti-seizure approach so I rotate Berberine or Andrographis for that, in my case. Andrographis is a bit sedating in nature, so that's for night for me. Berberine for day.

I will say that when I'm off OLE, the pain level is usually off the charts high. I've been out of it now for most of this month. Can't wait until I can order more in a week or two.

Best if one can consult with a LL ND (naturopathic doctor, though. Links in set below). I would never suggest that OLE is the one and only ticket to wellness from lyme, though.

When pain is higher, I think there could be more episodes of blood pressure - word loss - off kilter stuff . . . just my hunch. So, the best we can do to manage pain - and the underlying reason for it - the better all our body functions are likely to be.

Good luck finding the answer that works for your body, your life.

I hope others will feel free to share their thoughts, experiences (and note the specific brand used), or good links, too.
