I go to bed ok, sleep like a rock, but in the early hours, my head starts killing me while I'm still asleep. It alters my dreams immensely. I finally just get up b/c the pain is so bad.
Come to my office chair and just sit upright and within an hour, the pain is 25% of what it was laying down. I do nothing but sit upright. I am already on Boluoke (Lumbrokinase). Hard to tell if the pain is in the blood vessels on the scalp or in the brain. I certainly can't "touch it".
Also, when I wake up like this, I feel all shaky and cold. These two symptoms also clear up from sitting straight up.
Very strange, but what isn't with this illness.
Happy New Years everyone !

- Dehydrated? Wrong pillow? Need fresh air in bedroom? Exposure to scents, chemicals,or fabric finishes? Electronic gadgets plugged-in in the bedroom?
I'd start with the likely chance of being dehydrated. We wake up dehydrated, anyway. It's just the way it is for anyone. But, with infections, medicines and supplements, we need more water.
The first thing to consider with any kind of head ache is dehydration. Not just water, but also minerals, etc.
Maybe you need more water at night and if you get up during the night.
Temperature in room too warm, too cold or too much one way and the teeter-totter the other direction?
Enough FRESH AIR in your bedroom? Is the air flushed at least twice a day with outside air? -

You might want to investigate intracranial HYPERtension, a headache that is made worse by lying down and made better by sitting up or standing (because that lowers the pressure in the skull)... A lot of Lymies have issue with this! (I actually get the opposite, the orthostatic headaches that get worse when I stand up but better when I lie down; they're gone by the time I wake up, instead of getting worse the longer I lay.)
Good luck on finding the cause! And tell your doctor!!

I have been concerned with this too. I thought it was the vasculitis they found in CT scan since I take 2 BP meds anyway. If it's intracr. hypertension, then maybe med adjustment is in order. Tx. for sharing that.
Sorry to hear that you suffer from this also.
I have the head pain/pressure all the time, but this is a different kind of pain upon waking.
Great suggestions about need for fresh air and enough water/minerals.
