I'm on Suprax now, but I don't see many people talking about it here. More people talk about Ceftin. Is Ceftin a better cephalosporin? Which cephalosporin have you used, which is best?
Also, do cephalosporins treat Bart, and if so, which cephalosporins?
Thanks...

I don't know about Suprax, but Ceftin is what made me turn the corner and it is my understanding that it does not help Bart... It did not help mine at all.

They are both cephalosporins so they probably won't have an impact on bartonella.
Ceftin is considered a 2nd generation and suprax is considered 3rd generation. The 3rd generation meds are generally considered to have broader spectrum coverage.
For reference, Rocephin and Claforan are 3rd generation also.
Though in practice I think that ceftin and omnicef and suprax are used almost interchangeably for treatment of Lyme.
Of course, when our LLMD's prescribe a med they consider all our current infections and chose an RX combo that will best meet our needs at that time.

In my case, I was on Rifampin, Zith and A-Bart for 7 months, Lyme took over badly again and Dr. took me off most meds because of elevated liver enzymes and now I am off all of them except I take A-Bart and it seems to be holding the Bartonella at bay for months now. I have not gotten rid of it, but symptoms are just tolerable for now. I see my LLMD tomorrow and my enzymes are still not going all the way down, no idea why.
