i am trying to figure out how to get rid of this. Most experts believe babesia does not have the hypnozoite stage like malaria does.
Hynozoites are dormant in the liver and can exist there for 30 years causing relapses of malaria. Primaquine is the only drug that can kill hynozoites.
So does babesia have this form? If not, why does it keep coming back?
edited to correct spelling of hypnozoites - hope it is right

I would also like the answer to this question. I'll see what I can find.

I personally believe the answer is yes. But on the other hand there are so many places in the body and ways for the babesia to evade the meds that that adds to the difficulty treating.

Perhaps a person should take primaquine just in case. I will ask the LLMD about this next week.

Nefferdun -- If you still have active babesia be prepared for a really bad herx. Hubby did the low dose (Liz 28) primaquine/chloroquine protocol back in 2007 before he had adequately treated babesia and had had very little bart treatment. He ended up with a couple of ER visits and hospitalizations.
His blood pressure went sky high once and that has never been one of his symptoms.
I definitely think the primaquine/chloroquine goes after more than just babesia in the liver.
