Has anyone tried Cholestyramine to remove neurotoxins related to Lyme Disease and if so, have you had any success with it? Thanks.

Then do something to keep everything moving so it doesn't do a BILE back-up????/

This whole thing is just to crazy,,,but have to keep fighting..

Is there anything that can be taken with it to prevent constipation?
I will be starting it soon myself.

It was a long time ago, but I think I was mixing 1/4 or 1/2 tsp of Cholestyramine with 1 TBSP of Metamucil
in a glass of water, learning later to follow with another glass of water

as when I had a severe constipation problem, the gastroentrologist said that metamucil needs to be followed with alot of water as well as it can clog the pipes too

just started taking it myself a couple weeks ago. 1 scoop at night before bed.

I think it is helping this round of abx. (my last round, I got so scary sick I had to stop)

the abx make me loose anyways, so I haven't found an issue with the constipation.

wouldn't hurt to try.

don't want to be constipated though, then the toxins are sitting in there & getting reabsorbed for even longer!

Just be sure not to take it too close to food/meds/supps (a couple hours before or a few afterwards) as it binds to everything and you won't get your nurtients/benefits from the meds/supps.

if you have candida or yeast issues (as many of us do here from compromised immune systems and/or abx), you also may want to try the suger free variety.

Good luck! =D

Hello,

I take it once a day for lyme toxins because I also take thyroid medication. I take it with no sugar added apple sauce and it has never caused any constipation. I take the regular variety from a normal pharmacy because I could not pay for the compounded version.

I have been taking it for about 5 weeks. 3 scoops a day. Ramped up slowly as it was very difficult in the beginning, but now it's fine. It's done wonders for my brain fog. Fish oil is supposed to help with the initial 'herxing'(if it's that).

I've been using Cholestyramine for about 6 months now (1 scoop, twice daily). I experienced a substantial (not to say miraculous) improvement during the first two weeks I began taking it but then gradually lost the majority of those gains in the following weeks. However, I have still managed to sustain a small overall improvement since I began using it.

The variability and severity of my symptoms is so extreme that it is difficult to assess its effectiveness using them as a reference. A better measure of its effectiveness would be my blood work.

What I can say is that my blood work has been steadily improving (not just my cholesterol levels, BTW) since I began using Cholestyramine. As it was the only change made in my treatment regimen during the last six months, I feel confident asserting that it is working for me and may be of benefit to you.

I have not experienced any of the common side effects described by some users, other than a period of increased instances of acid reflux for 2-4 weeks after I first began taking it. I am not convinced that there is necessarily a connection between the two but wanted to mention it anyway.

Best of luck to you!
