So I went to my local CVS to pick up my zithromax, like I have done for about a year and a half, and to my surprise, the pharmacist told me the insurance co limited me to 4 pills. Why would they do this all of a sudden without any other issues over a year and a half? I don't want to ask too many questions as I don't want to get my doc in trouble.

Is this the first fill of 2012? Did something change with your insurance?

It is the first fill of 2012. Insurance stayed the same but I wondering who is looking at this and possibly saying "no more". IDK

Typical for insurance companies to change their drug formulary every year. Zith probably changed to add the amount restrictions that you are now seeing.
Your doctor will have to get involved. Call the insurance company and have them send forms to your doctor so that your doctor can have you approved for a larger amount.
I have had this happen repeatedly with many prescriptions and to date I have never been turned down for a larger amount.
Good luck. Terry

Insurance companies are trying to contain costs. This is a way to do it.
This happened to us last year with only one medicine. We played right into the fear factor and paid out of pocket for the drug for a whole year.
I decided I wasn't going to do it again this year. I called the doctor and it was quickly resolved.
I wish that I had done this last year. It cost me a lot of money.
