My LLMD wants me to take it in the evening. Does anyone know how far apart from food I need to take it?

For timing, their website says in the morning a half hour before breakfast. I assume, then, an empty stomach matters but you might call your LLMD since the change of time.

Tirosint

Full Prescribing information

--------

[Nonna, Tirosint is levothyroxine sodium (T4).]

From a cross search at Google for: Tirosint, evening

Here's one search result:

http://www.druglib.com/abstract/bo/bolk-n_arch-intern-med_20101213.html

Department of Internal Medicine, Maasstad Hospital Rotterdam, Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Effects of evening vs morning levothyroxine intake: a randomized double-blind crossover trial. (2010)

METHODS: . . . a randomized double-blind crossover trial was performed between April 1, 2007, and November 30, 2008, among 105 consecutive patients . . . .

CONCLUSIONS: Levothyroxine taken at bedtime significantly improved thyroid hormone levels . . . Clinicians should consider prescribing levothyroxine intake at bedtime.

More important links from a Google search for:

thyroid+medicine, evening

------------

Just my thought from the little I just read about this:

While this may be best with a T4 thyroid supplement (as most Rx are), anyone taking Cytomel (just T3) - or the combination pills with both T3 & T4 (Thyrolar, Armour, or NatureThroid / WesThroid) - should ask their doctor. T3 may be too stimulating to take in the evening.

nonna, Thyroid med.

Keebler, thanks for that addition at the bottom that says T3 may be too stimulating in the evening. I can't sleep! I will be calling my LLMD.

That's interesting --- my sleep has gone downhill, too since I started it last week.

My LLMD has me taking it with food!

He has you taking it with food?! I'm so confused!

I just called his office and left a message.
