I have been taking doxy for 3 months and now the doctor put me on Biaxin too. After about the 3rd dose I noticed my anxiety symptoms were growing. I called the office but he said he thought I was herxing and to keep taking it. Well I am ready to jump out of my skin. Is this a normal reaction to Biaxin? or is this some form of herx?

Biaxin had too many side effects for me. Each day the effects got worse. They were in order of importance: insomnia (by 4th day, I could not sleep even one minute all night long, all day long), anorexia (by 4th day, I could not bring myself to eat even one spooful of food in a whole day!), and anxiety (was not as bad as yours, but bothersome).
So, the lyme doc took me off Biaxin as soon as I called and reported these symptoms. He laughed about it! And, he just put me on another med instead.
It took about 4 more days before my sleeping, eating went back to normal. I guess that's how long it took to get it totally out of my body.
You can look up the side effects of Biaxin on the web. I can understand your doc thinking herx, but, in this case, I bet it is the side effect of Biaxin on you.
I would call and say I would rather herx on something else!!!!
Generally, herxes made me feel sick and very, very tired, etc., not anxious by any means.
Here are some website quotes of biaxin side effects:
Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Biaxin: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bloody stools; confusion; decreased urination; depression; dizziness; emotional or mood changes; fast or irregular heartbeat; hallucinations; loss of taste or sense of smell; muscle weakness; nightmares; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; seizures; severe diarrhea; severe stomach pain/cramps; symptoms of liver problems (eg, yellowing of the skin or eyes; dark urine; pale stools; severe or persistent nausea, loss of appetite, or stomach pain; unusual tiredness); tremor; trouble sleeping.
Side effectsMost common side-effects are gastrointestinal: diarrhea, nausea, extreme irritability, abdominal pain and vomiting, facial swelling. Less common side-effects include headaches, hallucinations (auditory and visual), dizziness/motion sickness, rashes, alteration in senses of smell and taste, including a metallic taste that lasts the entire time one takes it. Dry mouth, panic and / or anxiety attacks and nightmares have also been reported albeit less frequently.

Biaxin also weakly hits bartonella-which can cause major anxiety and insomnia.

Biaxin increased my anxiety. So did azithromycin last summer which is in the same family of medicines. Depression and anxiety got really bad. I still have mood changes due to stress and disease, but I can better deal with it now and sleep better. Biaxin made me nauseous, too, and I lost weight.
Nasty med for me.
