Just curious did the ringing in ears start within first week or so or did it take time? Also how long did it take for it to stop after you went off meds.

Sorry you've been clobbered by those kinds of sounds. It's called tinnitus.

Q: If stop zith, how long for tinnitus to stop?

It Depends. For some, it levels out - especially if good supplements are on board.

For some, it's so bad they have to stop and get another abx. Unless liver support has been used, though, it's best to also give that a try.

What kind of liver & nerve support are you taking?

Milk Thistle, magnesium, Fish oil, B-6, L-taurine?

Sadly, some antibiotics (abx) can cause tinnitus. Zithromax, Minocycline are top of that list. Biaxin, too, for some.

Liver support usually helps. More detail here:

But after 6 years ,,is there still a chance of relief.

On and off, mostly on, ABX's that long...just not soon enough or hard enough....

You should be careful with azithromycin as it can cause permanent damages .If you have it that try to see if you switch to biaxin for that reason the ringing will stop .It hapened to me.

I was supertoxic in the begining and I was killing more than I was detoxing. You need to detox but I am not aware if you are in mepron.

I also found saunas reducing the toxicity in head level and I would sweat and feel better.

It happened two times in me.First time when I was trying to reduce bart .The second time was when I was in superstrong Antibiotics in hospital and I know they were killing big time.I could not take any binders and I was supertoxic in hospital and I was vomiting bile and severe diarea with severe ringing in my ears.

I also now that my hearing was damaged due to severe herx.A strong herx prolonged can do permanent damages. You really need to take as many as you can binders to handle the die off as you are only in rocephin and azithromycin and back off to see if the ringing stop and detox big time.
Colesteramin and binders as Activated corcoal ( when you are suffering big time will stop a herx ) and clorella will help but you need high dosages of clorella 3 times a day to work.

Just back off.YOu are killing too much .

I was near death and could not stay alive one day without herbs and drugs and I was forced to take it and took tons of binders. But zithromycin is warned to be careful if you have ringing .

If it is herxing or too much of die off around that area is not good for the hearing so either stop and detox and bind to stop the hearing damages and see if with a small dosages of zithromycin you still hear it than switch to biaxin.

I had ringing in my ears not only in zithromycin but on every IV antibiotics for 1 months or high dosages of orals.I wanted to stay alive but I would not suggest you to continue if you have ringing due to damages that will cause.Prolonged ringing is the signal of toxicity around the ear area.
Yes mine is permanent.I was screaming to the doctors in hospital to cut the iv as they were doing them every 4 hrs in me.Back off please and save your ears.

It may be necessary to stop zith.

[Especially if you have your liver and herx support all on board and it still causes such tinnitus.]

More detail about the ototoxicity of zithromax is in the tinnitus thread.

Also there, but want to be sure you know this now:

when on abx - and for up to a year after stopping - the ears are MUCH more likely to be damaged from sounds that may not even be loud to others.

ALWAYS wear hearing protection even when around a hairdryer, blender, lawn equipment, vacuum.

NEVER use in-the-ear buds and try to not use headphones. Never listen to loud music. Tone it way down.

Explanations are in that Tinnitus thread, linked in post above.

Just back off.YOu are killing too much .

Im not so sure that i am. Since I started the IV rocehen 9 days ago I have been feeling pretty damn good, I did start to get the burning eyes about 4 days ago which has passed. I feel like I had a minor herx and now the crazy ringing. I have had the ringing getting worse for the last 2-3 weeks now. I had no idea zith could cause that and assumed it was the lyme. I have also had popping and static in my right ear. What ya think herx, lyme, or zith and how long before I can assume its permanant?

Caveman,

Scroll about 3/4 of the way down. You will see discussion about liver support.

Nothing seems to make sense with tinnitus. There are so many variables.

Check out the ATA link in the Tinnitus thread. There may be some food you ate that triggered it, etc. Even the weather pressure can do that.
