Anyone who doesn't know this you can register with direct labs and order a Lyme Panel from the new Spiro Stat lab. Without a doctor!

"Dr. Lee Cowden said in a presentation in April 2010 that Spiro Stat is the only lab that he would use for Lyme disease at this time."

There are two different tests and they test many microorganisms.

The first test includes:

SpiroStat Lyme Panel $639

Tests for spirochete organisms

The Spiro Stat testing panel currently includes all of the following organisms except Babesia microti:

Anaplasma phagocytophilum

Borrelia afzelii

Bartonella henselae

Borrelia burgdorferi

Borrelia garinii

Borrelia hermsii

Borrelia lonestari

Borrelia parkeri

Borrelia valasiana

Brachyspira aalborgi

Bracyspira hyodysenteriae

Coxiella burnetti

Ehrlichia chaffeensis

Ehrlichia ewingii

Francisella tularensis

Mycoplasma fermentans

Rickettsia spp (9 species)

Treponema carateum

Treponema denticola

Treponema pallidum

Treponema pertenue

The second test includes Babesia Microti:

SpiroStat Lyme Panel w/ Babesia Microti $739

Thanks for the info. Is it not the case that Spiro stat is doing antibody tests or PCR?

I do think the new culture test is worth doing too.

It's good to see all the options, ahnd great to hear of a place that does not require a doctor's order - and one that looks at so many possibilities.

For newcomers here, you might copy bigstan's post and the links below for your personal research files:

Hi Poppy from there website a caption says:

The Spiro Stat Lyme panel utilizes the specificity of DNA by first selectively targeting parts of the genetic code that are specific to unwanted bacteria. These bacteria can be found in body fluids or a tissue sample.

These specific bacterial DNA parts are amplified and then sequencing. This allows Spiro Stat to not only detect the bacteria, but also determine the specific identity of the organisms causing the disease. This PCR and sequencing combination is collectively called Molecular Confirmation.

Most scientists consider molecular diagnostics the best testing method because of the potential for:

directly detecting the genetic material of the pathogen

ability to detect virtually all genera of bacteria or fungi in one test

more sensitivity than culture based methods

can be used to detect invasive pathogens in the blood
