Hi all.
So next week I am starting shots of rocephin 4 times a week. I have already done bicillin shots without much benefit. i hadn't heard of Rocephin shots-- it thought it was only IV.

I am trying to figure out if my Dr wants me to have the shots to see how I react and if maybe I should do IV? Do you usually do the shots then IV?

I did get one shot to make sure i didnt have a bad reaction, and the next day I was an emotional mess, crying, depressed, freaking out. It was no good.

Anyways-- are shots like the gateway to IVs? Just wanna know what to expect.

Depending on your insurance coverage, the shots are covered under standard prescription plan, with a 30 day supply priced at your generic drug co-pay. IV cost is way higher (around $700/month), and is covered under major medical, which may have a high deductable before coverage kicks in. IV usually requires weekly home nurse visits for PICC line dressing changes, which is additional cost.

Some folks actually buy the IM Rocephin vials and mix it themselves for IV infusion (if they can find a cost effective souce for the saline, heparin, and other supplies.

From a body absortion perspective, I think IV delivers a higher concentration of the medicine than IM shots (but I'm not a doctor).

If you handle the IM shots OK and improve you may not need IV at all.

Good luck with this treatment.
