does nystatin used for yeast infection cause herx; if not how do you know if they are dying and how do they leave the body.

It certainly causes a herx for me! I've had to stop and re-start again at a lower dose, as it makes me feel SO horrible. I am taking liquid nystatin from a compounding pharmacy (so it does not have sugar or aspartame added to it, only stevia). I think the liquid does more to help oral thrush than the tablets.

I was wondering this too. I was having a bloated belly and clearly had yeast issues. Doc put me on Nystatin (I can't use diflucan because of a bad liver) which I started today - 1/4 tsp is all I have taken so far. He also had me take a probiotic called saccharomyces boulardii along with it. Well I took both at about 2:00 this afternoon and right now I am pretty uncomfortable. It feels like my belly is even more bloated than it was. Should I be taking both together, does anyone know? I understand the saccharomyces is also a yeast but a different kind that doesn't build up like candida. He wants to "overcrowd" the candida with it. But right now I seriously feel like crap. Can I assume it's a herx?

Are you sure it's not something you ate?? Are you following the diet carefully??
I know Diflucan cancels out s.boulardii .. Nystatin probably does too.
Another factor is that liquid nystatin contains sugar... that is why I prefer the tablets. There is also a powder form, that I hear is nasty.
I think you should call your doctor back.

Where do we think the Candida lies in? The gut, esophagus, and mouth?
Can candida reside in your blood and within other parts of the body (besides sexual organs)?

Thank you Randi, I will separate the two from now on. I just have so many supplements and pills that it is getting hard to schedule them all. Not enough hours in the day sometimes, but I'll find a way to work them all out.
Thanks Tutu, actually it is the powder that I am taking. I mixed 1/4 tsp of the powder with a little water and my vitamin C powder. The doc said it would be ok to do that as the C would mask the flavor of the nystatin. Maybe that's where I screwed up, I'll try with just water next time. As for the diet I am strictly wheat/gluten free, very little if any sugar or fruit, no GF breads with yeast, no peanuts, no soy etc. I have however been drinking rice milk once a day and coffee too, so I think those are next to cut.
I have had gas/bloat issues in the past but they didn't hurt. This hurts, but just seems to be severe gas pains, and my belly is making really weird noises so I am betting it is just a die-off.
I have also increased my water intake, hopefully it will help my liver clear things out.

Actually, I have a bunch of empty cellulose capsules...does anyone see a problem putting the nystatin in a capsule and taking it that way with a big glass of water?
