Benedryl, an antihistamine.
Do you have any on hand? Get some, take a dose, and it should start to work in half an hour or so.

I have been taking that since last night. Also had an oatmeal bath and used anti-itch cream, but nothing seems to help.

When was your last dose of antibiotics?
Have the hives become worse since you began taking the Benedryl?

Ugh, you're not supposed to take more antibiotics if you get a rash from them.

Which abx is it? I got this from a specific and (trying to remember which one) and it is common. IF you stop it and wait for the hives to disappear, then start it again, you'll likely be fine.
Obviously, I'm not recommending you do this. Just wondering if it's the same one I took. If you tell me the name, it might ring a bell.

Thanks, I'll try that. Did you change antibiotics or go back on them after taking a break from them?

iharp, how are you doing now?
Have the hives improved? If they are getting worse, where do you have them, and how large are they.
Did you need to take more Benedryl?

I havent restarted the bactrim and it is getting better. I would stop and restart one at a time to see which one is causing it.

I think it was bactrim that gave me hives too. But, my smart LLMD said to stop it until they went away and try it again, Sure enough, I was fine after that and bactrim with rifampin got me to a short-lived remission.

Hives are improving. I'm off and until rash is gone.
Then I will start new abx, ceftin and then add flagyl if no allergic reaction from ceftin.
Thanks for asking. How are you?

Hi iharp, sorry to hear this. I have had rashes/hives all my adult life. When I was finally dx last year with Lyme, And treated,After 6 days of my first abx I also got a horrible rash, I a was on ceftin. I remembered that many years ago one smart doctor started to treat me for Lyme with a border line positive along with one of my rashes with doxy. The rash went away in day with the doxy... In the past, Benedryl, and even prednisone would help with the itch but not the rash.
So flash forward to last may, I told my doctor about the rash many years ago responding to doxy and she added that. And again, the rash disappeared in a day.
If you have never had hives before I would move slowly and with a doctors guidance. But for me, I am almost certain that my rashes are and have always been herxes.

Some people are allergic to antibiotics. I'm one of those people. Many people try other routes, like the Buhner herbs, for example, if they can't manage antibiotics. See "Healing Lyme" by Steven Buhner.
Just know there's other avenues for you to go if you react with hives to antibiotics.
